What was your first job?

I was a nurse assistant. It was the worst and best job I have ever had. I have a genuine desire to give, and help people who are in need.
So when I started... I fell in love with being able to be there for the elderly, or for the people who had recently had a stroke... and couldn't even walk on their own. Their lives were turned upside down. And I was able to be there, to make things a little bit easier. I'd make them laugh, and forget the fact that they needed help just to use the toilet.
What made it the worst job, was seeing them being left there, at the facility by their family. Seeing them become depressed and lonely. Also, being understaffed and not able to give the amount of care they all deserved.
Before Enron went down in governmental flames, I got a job working there thanks to my aunt as a "go-for." I basically did all the odd jobs and anything anyone in the department needed me to "go for." Got coffee, put stamps on a 1000 letters, made copies, ran documents between floors, stuffed thousands of envelopes, relayed messages to people on the floor. It was basically boring monotonous work, but I got paid pretty well, I was on like the 36th floor and had a great view of the city, and when in the office space they let me use, I got to listen to my headphones or read magazines or draw once they ran out of monotonous tasks for the day for me to do.
My first job was on a housing construction site near where I lived. I was 12. I carried 2x4s, nailed in plywood which served as the floor of the houses, I used a steel rake to push wet concrete around in basements to make leveling easier, I held walls of 2x4s up so they could be nailed into place and more.
My first job after college was as a Systems Engineer (SE) for a computer outsourcing company. The first week was onboarding for 60 brand new SEs on a new major contract. During that week we were evaluated and some of us were designated Team Leaders. I was a Team Leader for 5 other SEs and assigned each of us were assigned a department to work with at the new client. Interesting times.
My first paycheck job was as a janitor for the newly constructed Music Facility Building in my high school. The school had not yet drawn up a contract for the actual custodian, so they asked for volunteers, and my buddy and I answered the call. We swept and mopped the tiled floors, and vacuumed the carpeted floors, removed the trash and cleaned the restrooms (where I learned that the girls wrote nastier stuff on their bathroom stalls than the boys did on theirs!)
After high school, I worked full time for a few months at a Zayre Department store before going to Navy Boot Camp.

My first unofficial job? I worked at my college campus in the library. Cozy job, and I got to study while it was slow.
But my first "adult" job was working in the ER as a financial counselor-
I would not wish that job on my worst enemy; it was awful! So glad I got away from that job.
What was so bad about the financial counselor job? In a for-profit healthcare system, I could probably guess, but?
@DryGermanGuy Imagine you or a family member in the emergency room, and someone walks in asking for money as payment for said person being treated-
And if you were uninsured, the price was ridiculous (300 dollars, more if you had to be admitted).
You came to get help or saved, and all the hospital wants is your money or to know you can pay.
The death stares I would get... just all around miserable job.
Some rooms I flat out refused to go in if it was a psych patient, prisoner, or the patient was in critical condition.
Yeah, that's as bad as I imagined... oooooooooofff. :-(
If you haven't seen it, there is a real cynical scene similar to that in the series "The Sopranos". The financial counselor quips to Tony about having a "wallet biopsy", before he throws her out. :-D
@DryGermanGuy Ooh, I have heard of that series but never watched it-
But yes, unfortunately that is how the healthcare system works (at least in the States).
While it is illegal to refuse to treat someone that is unable to pay or uninsured, a hospital can "stabilize" them enough to where they are okay, before either discharging them, or transferring them to another facility that is free care (State run hospitals).
You have to have a strong will to have that sort of job. I took the job because it was my first job out of college and I needed something on my resume/CV because I had no other work experience. After I was there a year, I was lucky enough to move on to something better and more suited to my degree.
Waiting and bar staff. It made me realise that I never wanted to do a customer facing/service job again and I haven't done anything like that since. Customer service jobs are not for the weak and impatient. It just drains you. Physically, mentally, emotionally..
Pizza job at Pizza Nova. Started out by just doing prep work and cleaning. Then was trained into a pizza maker. I got a lot of free pizza in those days lol
I did modeling in college to pay for tuition. I really enjoy it, beside the fact that sometime they want more out of me than what was stated on the contract. I graduated with a business degree wanting to continue modeling and work in the fashion industry. Somehow I ended up marrying a pastor, became a pastor’s wife, work in church ministry, went back to school for a master in education, and now work as a teacher. I wish I can turn back time and pursue my dream.
My phone job was when I was 16. I worked at a warehouse sale thing that sold products under L’Oréal. So like Lancôme make, bioderm, and whatever other companies were under L’Oréal at that time. I went home with a lot of Lancôme products. Kinda miss it. It was fun.

12 years old working for a real landscaper, mowing, weeding, edging, weed wacking, and light masonry lol. Not kidding either. I used all the equipment above except I used a reg size lawn more. I was too small to use a big one. Yes this was definitely not legal and I can't believe my parents let me work in the summers with him 25 hours a week.
I sterilized surgical instruments in the basement of a hospital. Back then you could smoke cigarettes indoors. It wasn't uncommon to smoke a cigarette while you prepared a surgical tray.
I worked in a Kentucky Fried Chicken before i started college in 1971. That was the same year as the Spanish-American War.
