Can I get a background check without my ssn?

Recently I was hired for a new really really job with a huge pay increase. The thing is in order to complete the hiring process I need to do a background check, sure that's fine. I had my mother a binder with my ssn card in it, so she can fax over the information for me to begin the process. I start this job in a couple days and they cannot give me the rest of my paperwork until the background check is complete. I should also mention I have ADHD and the ssn was in the binder in a slot specifically so I wouldn't lose it. The minute I gave my mother the binder, she takes my ssn out stating she'd "lose it" unless it's in her wallet. Doesn't really make sense to me but fine whatever just fax over my information please. She does the fax and tries to hand me back my ssn, when I'm doing homework so I tell her to just LEAVE IT ON THE WINDOW outside my room right? For whatever reason she felt the need come back later on while I'm still working and hand me the ssn. Again, I have ADHD, if I am working on something while you hand me something which I told you to leave where it was so I can get it later and I'll know where it is, I'm going to freaking lose it!!! THAT is why it was IN THE BINDER, THAT'S why I said to LEAVE IT ON THE WINDOW! I know who I am and was actively taking steps to avoid this exact situation!!! Because know the ssn is gone, because I was in the zone when it was handed to me and I have no idea what I did with it! And now the fax thing is saying it's incomplete and I need to fax over the ssn again. I'm scared I'm going to lose this job because my mother couldn't just listen to me and I'm incredibly stressed out. Is there a way I can get a background check or access my ssn online or something to send over? I only have a passport for id, I don't have a real id or birth certificate. Please does anyone have any advice on what to do here?

Go online and get a Social Security Account. They can provide you with your number. Or call them and ask for more information since your card appears to be lost.

By the way, if you're over 18, get a Real ID. It's time you had one. OR a driver's license. Most states also have digital wallets that keep your Real ID on your phone.

But, for the SSN, I'm surprized you haven't used it very much. By the time most people head to college, they've memorized their numbers. But, I'm guessing this employer wants to see your card.

What about your tax records. Tax records have SSNs on them. Do you have any? Or, if your parents claim you, they probably have to use your SSN on their tax returns. Ask your employer if the number alone will work for them while you get another copy of your card in the mail so you can have your work records processed. Good luck.

They need the physical card itself, I know and have already needed to provide my number. They technically know my ssn but they need to card. I'm thinking the best I can do is get a new card and just cross my fingers it comes in time to fax over the information again.
