Most of us have a bunch of subjects at school that are compulsory. Teachers expect you to get sufficient grades in all of them, so everyone ends up 'knowing' more or less the same. The idea behind it is that every student has a basic grasp of every subject and can then make the correct career choice.
But I think we should really focus on what a particular person is good at, rather than trying to reinforce teaching the subjects we are worst at. Let's say you're good at math but terrible at chemistry. Shouldn't teachers value what you're good at, stimulate math and prepare you for excellence in this particular subject?
