Which interests you more? STEM or Arts?

And I'm not only talking about college courses, just in general which side do you prefer or are curious about?

I'm a mad mad STEM child. I have read calculus books just for fun and tried to read my dad's engineering books but I can only make out some of his first semester books, they are extremely stressful. In fact I was also thinking that I will do physics undergraduate because I have such an awesome physics teacher in school, genuinely made me love the subject.

But for my college course I'm choosing a mix of both, BSc course along with subjects like philosophy, politics, psychology, wherever I'm accepted. And I'm working on this paper which discusses about an utopian city with ideal energy conservation (the STEM side) in a Socialist-to-Capitalist economic transition (The arts side).

If it comes to debating, I prefer something related to Arts because it has so many different perspectives and when someone is teaching me or telling me something, I prefer that topic to be sciency or stem related. In short, I love discussing about Arts and learning about STEM. And I guess that's same for many people.

What about you?

Here we just call that the arts and the sciences. It's so much easier to get a good job with education in the sciences, especially here in the US where everybody's too goddamned lazy to study the sciences (stem). I'm more interested in automotive engineering but I suck in math

I have been a science nerd since I was a kid and have a degree in Computer Science. I think STEM is more important but I did take the random Philosophy and Political Science courses as electives and surprisingly got a lot out of them.

Like there are certain aspects of each I want to learn and in my own time. When taking any of those fields, you're only going to end up trying to learn things that doesn't matter to you and wait for the ones that actually matters and it's a waste of time. The internet has everything and you only need discipline and train critical thinking to process the informations it provides.

And that's exactly why I have low grades. And they always thought I was dumb until I realized I'm just a pragmatic learner.

That's interesting, personally I'm comfortable with school method, like going to a classroom and having someone good and not irritable over there teaching me. I enjoy making notes, reading books and preparing for tests. And i prefer this for stem subjects, that's why I have physics, chem, maths, economics as my chosen subjects. The only arts subject I have is classical music and I am poor in that. And personally I'm not very disciplined with internet, I can easily procrastinate if I don't set time limits and all.

Do you consume information on both stem and arts with equal enjoyment and satisfaction through your system or do you enjoy learning a certain subject more than the other?

Some but I end up searching more about it if it interests me. It's just that even if the topic that matters to me comes out, the mood of waiting for it just kills.

This is one reason why drop outs can be come successful because they focus on what makes them successful not those topics that everyone would just likely forget.

Also I'm aware of survivorship biases and I know there are many others who are dropouts and broke but being a drop out is not the sole reason why they are broke. Many people take it personally, end up giving up, also because of how society condition people to believe that school education is the only way to be successful or they may just stay comfortable on autopilot mode. The other nuance is that even graduates can also be broke and unsuccessful. What is in those people's mind is

"why do I need to learn music when I could just make books and sell it?"

"Why do I need to study atoms when I should be planning on where I'd open up my first restaurant?"

But of course that mindset is not for everyone and I'm not saying that education is not entirely useless. People just have different motivations.
