But since the question asked to pick one, I pick Diamond Miner, a job that requires one to essentially live hundreds of meters underground for days at a time in extremely hot and messy conditions.

Depends on how you define hard. To me, what I find the hardest is what many people would find the easiest. Not having anything to do is the hardest thing for me. I walked off a job once because I didn't have anything to do.

The most physically demanding jobs I've done are construction related. Some trades are more demanding than others. Carrying shingles up on a roof is hard work. Throw 150 pounds over your shoulder, climb up a ladder onto a roof, walk across the roof and set it down, then go for another load. Carrying drywall down stairs into a basement pretty much sucks also.

There are a lot of jobs that take you to your physical limits. I suppose they could all be considered pretty equal in physical difficulty.

Some of the most dangerous jobs are also construction related, but some other things are more dangerous. Like working the oil fields, fishing boats and farming are very dangerous. Farmers also put in very long hours and have to know a lot of different trades. Logging is also dangerous.

This picture is of a welder. But what has been known to be the hardest job is underwater welders. They can only work for short times, depending on depth they have to depress for hours before returning to the surface. It’s a very dangerous job and I don’t know about now but 20 years ago those guys made $400 an hour because it’s so dangerous.

Not sure but the hardest I've done was roofing in winter. Tearing 3 layers of shingles off is pure hell. The bottom layer comes up in little pieces like a puzzle piece size. Three sets of nails and standing on an angle. I hated it.
