No. In fact, most of the jobs I've worked don't require college degrees. The one I have right now is probably the closest. I think the real key is finding a job you like, that you're good at, that challenges you, and that can help you develop good professional skills and competencies and then staying there for several years. And, of course, being good at it. I was at my last job for seven years and when I was applying for new jobs, I got more emails, phone calls, and text messages than I could keep up with trying to recruit me for jobs.

Our AI overlords are coming for the pen-pushing white collar jobs. Fast. Unless there is an element of physical presence required (e. g. doctors, nurses, teachers, M&A schmoozer) or of creativity (e. g. architect) there is little viable career path for someone graduating with a degree four years from now that would use the skills they gained at college... the entry-level jobs available then will be in tiny numbers. If you have already graduated and have an entry-level white collar job then you better get a move on because they will be coming for the mid-level jobs a few years later.

Better off training as a plumber, sparky, chef, etc.

Depends on the job. Average jobs like retail, fast food and customer service? No, that’s not a flex as those jobs don’t require a college education. But gaining a respected career without a degree is certainly a flex.

If you managed to land a job in high end engineering or tech without a degree then yeah that would be impressive (not worth flexing though because you don't have the experience at all which can be taken away quite easily). But if you managed to land a job in retail, fast-food, warehouse movement then it's respectable the effort but it's nothing to gloat about - unless it's Greggs.

It's not so much a flex as it is a question of numbers. As fewer and fewer qualified people are available from US universities, companies will look outside the states for hires. Problem with that is, the fees Mango Molester is charging PLUS the fact that these people aren't idiots and can see what's going on in the USA. The best and the brightest don't want to deal with the shit and racism that will be directed towards them and their families if they are in the US.

So my point is, companies may be forced to hire people who undertrained or underqualified and do their own training. The irony of it all? Essentially, they'll be DEI hires, but they'll be white folks. LOL

Depends on the job? If it's job that people envy cause it pays well or something then that becomes a flex.
Though flexing something causing envy in others is typically a bad idea.
