Why aren’t kids pushed earlier to specialize and pursue what’s truly important?

Its obvious the average path is not gonna bring anybody anywhere, notice how Beyonces been training xince 7 and all tge pro NBAers also atart young. It follows people should be pushed to develop expertise in their field of choice early on. I believe since 12 kids should just learn what they want/would need to for their job, school should be specialized

Most people are born to sit in cubicles their whole lives. They don't really have the intelligence or talent for much more than that, and if you've ever been on the phone for customer service about anything, you know they don't even do those jobs well.

I’ve coached a lot of teens and worked with many high-performers. A few thoughts from experience:

1. Early intensity helps, but early *lock-in* harms. NBA players trained early, but many also played multiple sports. Over-specializing too soon increases burnout, injury, and regret.

2. Most 12‑year‑olds don’t yet know themselves. Their interests, brains, and opportunities change fast. A broad base lets them pivot.

3. Modern work changes. People switch careers multiple times. Narrow training at 12 can leave them stuck at 32.

Better: strong basics (literacy, numeracy, thinking skills) + guided exploration + increasing focus from ~16 onward.
