Is it practical to go back to school for an associate degree at my age?

I went to community college part time right out of high school, took some cool classes and also completed some general ed requirements. I didn't take it very seriously, though, because I was too into surfing, backpacking, exploring, partying and having fun.

Then I got a really good job and quit taking classes.

I stuck with that job, but when I was 34, I decided to complete my AA degree. I took one class per semester at night. I enjoyed it and excelled. I even took some courses that I didn't need for my degree because they were interesting.

I didn't need the degree for my job, I just wanted to complete it.

As far as improving your employment options, it is much better to have an AA degree than a mere high school diploma. It means that you have more knowledge but it also says something about your character.

yes, it's never too late. besides it's not uncommon nowadays. personally my mom, my aunt and my dad's cousin wanted to do job reconversion and went back to school to switch fields in their 40-50s

It's pointless. An associate degree won't even get you a dollar raise but will cost you 4 to 10k. You'll retire before you made more than a deli worker at HEB in Texas that didn't even graduate high school. My wife makes $21 per hour part time at the deli.
