Why do others seem more confident in my abilities than I am in myself?

Two new positions opened up for assistant supervisors at my job. I’ve thought about going for it. I’m submitting an application. Others are saying I’m great for the job or I’m perfect for it with my experience. I’ve been having second thoughts. Maybe I’m afraid of the risk for the outcome if I fail.

You said "I'm submitting an application" that shows your insecurity, which is common. It's hard and scary to move out of your comfort zone. By only submitting an application, you are already acknowledging that you might not get it

Believe others that you are qualified for the promotion.

And be positive... say "I'm going to get one of those positions."

4. Practical step:
Ask two coworkers and one manager:
- “What strengths would I bring to this role?”
- “What would you want me to work on?”
Write their answers down. That becomes your evidence, not just your feelings.

Apply. Treat this as a *learning experiment*, not a final exam.
