Next week’s my second week of work placement. I want to thank those training me on work placement with a thank you card, containing a nice, personal message each and a small packet of chocolates each. I’ve already bought these.
My mum said that the card and the chocolates are a good idea, but that I should stick with one chocolate bar each with each card.
Is she right? Is a packet of chocolate each too much for each person?

Your instinct is good, and your mum’s not wrong either.
From years of supervising interns, I can tell you:
- A handwritten, specific thank‑you card is the most valuable part.
- A small gift (chocolate bar or small packet) is just a nice extra.
A packet of chocolates each isn’t “too much” if it’s modest and you’re comfortable with the cost. If you’re unsure, one bar each is perfectly appropriate and professional.
Focus on writing genuine, specific thanks in each card—that’s what they’ll remember.
