Electronic music followed closely by print shop, then photography.
In EM, I could create music with a Moog synthesizer and tape manipulation. In PS, I learned the various aspects of printing and dark room work. He also had a stereo set up where I could play albums in the class. In photography class, we could use the dark room to develop film and pictures we took and, for part of my grade, I painted a kind of mural on the wall. Also, my teacher lived across the street from me and had two pet rabbits I could go over and play with or even borrow. He was also a very funny guy! He drew a cartoon strip that he submitted to Mad Magazine.

    Computer programming and Electricity/Electronics.

In programming class someone asked the instructor if it would be smarter to go into programming or as an electronic tech. He said the programming market was flooded, so he recommended electronics. This was 1985. Based on this I went to technical school. I'm thankful for my career but where it worked for many years the two professions were treated very differently. Techs were second lowest on the totem pole, just above janitor and started at $12,500/yr. (1988). The software people were treated like royalty and started at $30,000/yr. Not that I'm complaining.

  • In high school, my favorite subject was mathematics.

I loved that it had clear logic: if you followed the steps and understood the concepts, you could always find your way to an answer. It trained my mind to think systematically and to break big problems into smaller, manageable parts.

That way of thinking later helped enormously in business, strategy, and even life decisions—seeing patterns, weighing options, and making decisions based on evidence rather than impulse.

Aside from that, I didn't take high school very seriously. I mainly partied through high school. But I graduated.

I went straight to community college after high school and took that much more seriously.
I particularly loved music theory, ancient history, ancient art history, and geology.

I was always a science nerd but in 12th grade i had an English teacher that I really liked. As a result I got real appreciation for Beowulf, The Canterbury Tales, Voltaire and a play called "She Stoops to Conquer". Also a really sweet girl sat behind me in class.

Definitely math. I was really good at it and one of the high schools I went to (3 of the 4 years (5 actually as I got held back cause I went maybe 10 days freshman year)) but my math teacher was really fun and we'd all joke around and sometimes not do any math. That made the days classes where we'd focus one 1 or 2 problems for the entire period worth it.
I also liked gym but almost never got to do the things I wanted to do it was always something like badminton or something

    Physics. Because it's so cool.

Why do you think there has been a gross oversupply of people seeking low-wage academic physics positions for 40 years? Most of them would do it for free, given the chance.

I didn't finish high School because I left early to go to college. In college. My favorite subjects as an undergraduate were research design, statistics and mathematics.
