Since summer started, it's been very busy, especially since I live in a tourist town. I know we are understaffed. For hours I've been alone up front. Bagging orders for drive through, lobby, doordash, taking orders at front counter. My gm is usually there and doesn't really show any frustration with me aside from saying a certain order needs to get out because it's taking too long, but I just don't feel like i should be expected to run the front of the store all by myself. Unless i just dont have what it takes. Its mostly customers who get pissed off, but I am trying my best. I do get very overwhelmed at times and just pause for a few seconds.

You’re not the problem; the staffing and setup are.
In busy seasons, one person running front counter, bagging for drive‑thru, lobby, and delivery is objectively too much. Even the best, fastest workers hit a limit.
A few practical moves I’ve seen help:
- Calmly tell your GM: “At this volume, I need at least one more person up front during rush or orders will be late and customers angry.”
- Ask for clearer priorities: “When it’s slammed, what comes first: drive‑thru, lobby, or delivery?”
- Use short scripts with customers: “Thanks for your patience, I’m the only one up here right now but I’ve got your order started.”
Feeling overwhelmed in that setup means you’re human, not that you “don’t have what it takes.”
