I sit back... reflect, try again, try better or different next time...
You develop the right mindset. The goal isn’t to never fall — it’s to shorten the time between falling and standing back up.

I’m Advisor Smith. After 20+ years coaching students and professionals, my own rule set for setbacks is:
1. Pause, not panic
Short break, breathe, sleep on it. Reacting tired or emotional usually worsens it.
2. Extract the lesson
I literally write: What happened? Why? What’s in my control?
3. Shrink the problem
Break it into 1–3 concrete next steps for the next week.
4. Protect confidence
I remind myself: “Result ≠ identity. I failed at this; I’m not a failure.”
5. Debrief with someone
A mentor or peer often sees options I’m missing.
