What is the hardest job you’ve ever had?

Were you good at it? Did you stick with it, or quit for something less challenging?
Sometimes hard work pays well. Sometimes it only pays in character. Ell oh ell!
I’ve had a lot of character building jobs. As an electrician, i still get into very challenging projects. The ones that challenge my mind are my favorite. The ones that challenge my strength and endurance, well… i like to say that’s young man’s work, and i prefer to have apprentices for those jobs. 😂😂
What was the hardest job you’ve ever had?

In 1981 i worked at Eastman Kodak building the new power plant as an electricians helper for $5.50 an hour. I was 18 and it was hot in Longview, Texas. We worked 4/10s and by 5pm I was wrung out those four days. Most of my time was pulling wirè. I saw one or two bigshots (journeyman electricians) who inspired me at that young age. This one guy came in like a rock star. When the pits where the piping was inlaid for the wire to go through was full up to the knee with rain water he just jumped right in. Wveryone was standing around watching him prepare the wire for this pull. By the time he was through and climbed out he was drenched and had mud all over from waist down. He had reddish hair and a beard like Grizzly Adams and even had mud in that huge beard. He didn't bat an eye as he rattled off instructions to our foreman on the best way to do it. Then he jumped in his company truck and went to the receiving end of the pull. I thought, damn, he didn't mind doing that to get the job done. It impressed the hell out of me and stayed with me all my life. When met with certain hardships at work I tried to have that same attitude. Be the first to jump into that muddy hole.

Momtold me one weekend how she heard me moaning and groaning in my sleep at night. I was sunburned, exhausted from the ten hour days and one hour and thirty minutes each way to the job site, and my green ass fresh out of high school. A close friends dad had got me hired and he, his wifes nieces husband and i swapped out the driving each week. They were typical seasoned construction guys. They would say dirty things to try getting at me. What they didn't know, is I talked much worse than their dorky old asses. lol

I worked the job for about 6 or 7 weeks when my transmission went out on my truck. I drug up not wanting to br the one who didn't pull his own weight since they talked so seriously about ride sharing. I was young and didn't realize thart they wouldn't mind me not having my ride until i had it fixed. Bùt I remember having a certain feeling afterwards on how happy i was to not have that damn job anymore.

Waitress while I was studying. Not that it was hard but I had to work the dinner shift until around 11pm and then be awake at 5 the next morning.
