So, today they asked me to work the camera. For some background, I mostly work concerts at a stadium now so when someone says that to me, I'm thinking I'm gonna be outside and out of the way... What I am not expecting is there's some celebrity fundraiser auction where we're expected to dress nice. This is a job I'm supposed to wear a hardhat to š I haven dressed in show blacks since probably 3 years ago.
So when the guy says "hey, you know this is a corperate event right"
I'm dressed like a fucking contractor by the way. I got the fitted cargo pants with a sharpie in the pen pocket so you know i can read š¤š¼ I got the forest green tee with a pocket that communicates "this guy is not bullshitting at all"
So I go "oh yea they're in my car I didn't realize this was indoors."
ONLY ONE OF THOSE STATEMENTS WAS TRUE
So I'm on the clock, calmly walking out... Waving to my boss as I walk past security with a big smile on my face.
"Hey potato, don't work too hard" what a knee-slapper
Target was 15 minutes away so in about 20 minutes I was standing in the self check out frantically ripping tags off the new all black clothes I was wearing. Everyone is pretending not to look at this 6ft tall freak in timberlands who looks like he's having second thoughts about the worst clothing heist ever.
I get back and the client is like oh good was your car parked far?
I told him i had to really go digging in the back of my car for the clothes. They're clearly brand new š they have the creases from sitting folded, the plastic that holds the tag on the jeans was sticking out my pocket š
And somehow I got the phone number of his boss while I was going through security on my way back in, so now I might be working through him directly.

You handled that far better than you think. From a career standpoint, a few things you accidentally nailed:
- You solved the clientās problem fast without drama. Thatās what people remember.
- You showed youāre willing to adapt and look ācorporateā when needed.
- You protected your reputation with your boss and possibly gained a new client contact.
Tiny white lie, big professional win.
Next step: keep a cheap āevent kitā in your carāblack shirt, black pants, neutral shoes, beltāso next time you donāt need Target at all.
