As for job market needs it‘s different in every area, every state, every city & every town. As for universities if they tailored courses to job market needs they would go out of business over time or if the job market changes.
Universities are there to make money & they have a variety of courses & bullshit electives you don’t need.
Trade school are more tailored to job market needs.
If universities tailored courses to job market needs every university would get rich off of the following courses.
1. Couch Potato 101
2. How To Take/Sell Selfies
3. How To Collect Welfare
4. How To Collect Unemployment
5. OnlyFans 101
6. How To Become A TikTok Star
7. How To Become A Basketball Star
8. Gaming 101- Living in your parents basement
9. Emojis 101
10. Professional Break Taking 101
11. How To Post Anonymous 101
12. Insurance Scamming 101
13. Tax Evasion & Embezzling 101
14. Street Pharmacy 101 (Course Includes The Following)
A. Pill Popping
B. Booger Sugar Using
C. Nose Candy Using
D. Hitting The Pipe
15. Freelance Gynecology 101
16. Blowup Doll Quality Control/Tester
17. Dildo Quality Control/Tester
The list can go on & on & feel free to add to my list if you can think of any.
Well of course but they should start at kindergarten if you've noticed the US hasn't done anything for their people their kids we are so far behind China Japan other countries because United States Taylor their kids to be failures they don't want their kids to be smart because once we figure out who we truly are the Elite will have a battle and they will not keep taking from us and turning United States into a cesspool of drug addicted failures in our children to our College people little by little they just keep taking taking and not giving our children what they need when they have lots of money they can control anything and they have their dirty little fingers in everything
So you're asking if Universities are nothing more than mills to turn out compliant workers for Capitalism to make the 1% wealthier. I hope not but I think we've been there since the 1950's post war economic boom. I hope we don't lose the ability to think and question for it's own sake or the liberal arts education as a path to thinking about something other than a paycheck and new cars.
I helped design a Medical Informatics curriculum at the college where I teach. It was going to be a degree program. This was right after President Obama earmarked billions of dollars to streamline Medicare and this program woudl have prepared our students to work in the insurance billing field.
So , this is already being done.
no. but they should steer you in the right direction. they should counsel you about your interests and their viability in future markets. if universities collapse then we go back to almost before college. on the job training. because i don't understand job postings. like how can someone check all of these boxes for these strangely specific jobs?
There are incredibly strong wage signals in the US labour market that encourage students to choose suitable courses. A bureaucracy would rarely do a better job than the students themselves, and often would do a worse job. I've been in meetings with government agencies whose job it is to map out skill needs.. their work is woefully bad.
Not strictly, because there are some degrees that have values apart from job prospects. But a student declaring his or her major should be informed of their job prospects with that degree after graduation.
Should at the very least stop loaning federal money for useless degrees. Oh wait, Trump's already doing that.
Most lines of work probably don't require a university. That is just another line of brainwashing they pump into people when they are young.
If a person wants to work in a particular field, it makes sense that some of university courses are tailored to the industry in addition to other courses to giving students a well rounded education.
@Kelly6 Yes, of course, unless some men are astute enough to watch market demands and look for training in a specialized field, as my brother did when he went into nursing.
no... because the job-market needs can switch and even disappear after two, four, six years... lol
Probably yeah. Should be minimum academic requirements to go to college in the first place.
Universities are too oriented to turning out academics
To some extent they do, at least some schools like Northeastern do
Haha as soon as they stop pushing all these BS CLASSES that have nothing to do with the real world yes.
No, of course, the whole world does not revolve around what capitalists need in terms of labor to make their money.
@msc545
It would be easy for them to find jobs
@msc545
Only the being doctor by getting MD is done this way
The whole world does not revolve around how easy it is to find a job. You just think it does because you live in a capitalist country.
All universities around the world should do it, really. Make getting a degree worth it.
Simples...
Community colleges fill the job-market need, similar to how German education.
You'd think so, wouldn't you?
For some careers this would be excellent
Yes they should!
Seems like a good idea to me
Yes, every country should.
doesn't every country do that?
Currently , I don't think so
Sounds effective
It would make sense
