Azula = The fire nation princess
Ozai = The fire nation lord and Azula's father
Azulon = Azula's grandfather and Ozai's father
Machiavellian, low on empathy, egotistic and narcissistic, overconfident. Typical traits of a textbook psychopath. Fits both Azula and Ozai. I don't know Azulon, he wasn't an explored character, but crazy might run in the family, since he commited genocide.
It's actually interesting to explore what would have happened if for some reason Ozai beat Aang.
If Zuko won against Azula, I have no doubt that at the end of the day, Ozai would have faced Zuko and company. Whether Katara, Zuko and Toph could beat Ozai... I don't know, but I'd wager yes. He was the most skilled and powerful firebender of his time - despite how much the comics wanted to retcon that, the show made this obvious -, but without the comet, he would have been helpless against a comparable potent, and emotionally heavily heated Zuko, Katara as backup and healer, and Toph, a natural in Earth bending, and probably the second best in the series at the time, right after Bumi.
But if Azula defeated Zuko&Katara, or those two beat retreat for some reason...
Then the question is, could two superpowered psychopaths rule an empire together? My best guess is that interestingly, Ozai would probably make quick work of Azula - either through intrigue (poison, assassination), or in an Agni Kai -, and since he needed an heir who was able to be manipulated while keeping up the pretense that the firelord still has an heir, he would probably take back Zuko, grudgingly. One of the most important thing emperors have to look out for is that they have a dynasty. That gives an example to people on how to live.
But with Zuko as second fiddler, the firenation would probably start to become a better, less militaristic place, and Ozai would probably be overthrown in less than a lifetime.
If for some reason Azula defeated Ozai... the Firenation would fall apart. Azula was clearly deranged, and her own men were unsure of her. I think it would be the matter of days until she took a dagger in the back.
Remember the beach episode. Azula could only flirt with fire nation propaganda. It's a disability by not being able to understanding calm rational actions. they are not being exposed to calm rational examples. Once you are out of development stages of life and exploring your ego it's a hard course change but doable. Look at zuko's ark.
Looking at azula crying after lossing to zuko she can comprehended what went wrong she held fast to her structure and was crushed when it crumble. Psychopaths can't do that. They hold nothing care for nothing.
Didn't Azulon leave his best friend Avatar Roku for dead because Roku wouldn't help him conquer the other nations?
And then remember they were saying that he forced Roku's daughter to marry his abusive and cruel son (Ozai). Zuko's grandfather on his mom's side was Avatar Roku until his father and grandfather conspired to kill him and held his daughter prisoner. I'd say they're pretty psychopathic. I think Azula is genuinely confused and disturbed. She had to become a ruthless murderess in order to have respect from her father and grandfather and from a young age, her mother viewed her as evil. She was brought up to succeed the throne as a Tyrant and her father encouraged her violence and paranoia, especially after he banished/or killed her mother.
Oh, and although Azula had a ruthlessness about her, we saw that she genuinely cared about her friends (those fire nation noble girls) even when they turned on her to protect Zuko, she couldn't bring herself to kill them and it really hit her hard. Remember how she banished everyone in the palace and was crying to those old women about how the only people she'd trusted had betrayed her? I think she was genuinely just led astray by her family.
Nah, not really. In their specific cases, that kind of crazy was taught and learned. I see being a Psychopath as a more natural kind of mental condition.
The sweet grandad... I don’t think he’s crazy at all. Not in the way his other family was. But I may be getting my characters mixed up.
I guess all of them are psychopaths, but that the grandfather Azulon was better at manipulating and acting "normal". Psychopaths don't do bad things all the time and can pretend to be people's friends.
You're thinking of Iroh; the uncle.
Yes, it's a very good show.

I don't think they're psychopaths. I think they are a result of being raised by broken and dysfunctional families. Thank goodness Zuko at least had a father figure in Uncle Iroh and was practically raised by someone gracious and caring, otherwise he would probably would have turned out the same as Azula, Ozai and Azulon. I believe Azula could have turned out completely different, if was able to mend the relationship with mother and had someone to love her unconditionally. Azula had to fight and make something of herself in order to win Ozai's favor.. and I mean favor, not love. Zuko had someone who loved him unconditionally with Iroh, not Azula. I don't know.. I'm babbling.
Azulon: no. He's cruel and ruthless, but when ozai wanted the throne from iroh, he was pissed that he could be so callous to his own brother who just lost his son.
Ozai and azula: absolutely. Ozai is a massive narcissist and azula is a mentally unstable and narcissistic.
Technically yes, cause they were raised to be that way.
A person is sociopath if s/he's affected by the environment, but a psychopath is born that way.
we learn basic human behavior from others. If someone grows up in in family that doesn't express very much love, chances are they will have a hard time expressing love themselves. Why do you think children that grew up around animals act animalistic? We may be human, but we need to learn what it is to be human and act human.
If they were raised that way or affected by the environment, they're sociopaths. Not psychopaths. That was my point.
They are all evil and disturbed. This video proves it
Yeah. Uncontrollable greed, no regard for others opinions or life, they showed all the traits of psychopathy
Azula defiantly is, she tortured people because she enjoyed it. the other two did horrible things but they did it because they thought it would make their empire and therefor them more powerful
Holy hell, they let the lust for power and destruction completely posess them
Cruelty, pride, greed, lust for power, lack of remorse, excessive fearlessness, they display all of these traits
Yes they are. I don't have to explain it. You watch them and all they shout is I am insane
They think they are simply better and that the other nations are less than them. While they never said they say the other nations as animals like white people saw blacks in the 50s (and some still do)
um yeah they're pretty psychotic I established this in 2008
Oen u r a psychopath. I did. Got to oen both sides of duality to c truth which has nothing to do with duality?
Azula is just broken. Other two are assholes.
Elaborate?
During the last season, you'll see how the mother of the azula and zuko favoured zuko because zuko was weak. Mother spent more time with zuko. Azula in order to get the attention of mother tried to become better than zuko and her this desire made her closer to the fire Lord and then she became what you see in the series.
Interesting how differently we interpreted it. From how I understood it she loved them both equally, but Azula didn't behave well and didn't accept the mother's offer. A parent can love their children equally, but still hanging with one of them more than the other one because of the interests and things they've in common. I've more in common with one of my parents than the other one and since we likes the same things, we do things together more often. If Azula didn't refuse all the opportunities, the mother would maybe hang more with her too. I hasn't read the comics. For me Azula seems psychopathic already when she was a child - like Ozai and Azulon.
u know avatar finished like over 5 years
HEY! AZULA WAS THE BEAT CHARACTER
That bitch was crazy towards the end lol
Leave psychopaths out of this please
I believe so.
