I've noticed some anime and cartoons fans finds certain characters attractive although it's not real human beings in live action. I do understand some characters are nicer drawn than others and that ugly cartoon characters exists. But still, it's animated. How Can People Find Animated Characters Attractive?
Part of it is based on imagination. Part of it is that, despite being animated, when you watch a show and invest in it the characters feel real in a certain regard. Whether or not they're animated they feel just as real as real people. It may seem weird but that's just how it is. I've found plenty of animated characters attractive because I see them as characters rather than as animated characters if that makes sense. Characters with depth, with personalities, flaws, strengths, all the things that make people... well people.
I know there are people with a very clear and strong sense of a separation line between reality and fiction, animated vs. living. But there are those who see a lot more in animation than drawings. We see personality reflected through the designs of characters and through their behavior. Something many people may realize is that the greater the emotional attachment or connection you have to a person the more attractive you find them. While some people have a very clearly defined sense of reality and fiction, those who can invest themselves enough to somewhat blur those lines may feel an emotional connection with a character and consider them the way they would any other real life person. You may not understand it, you may think it's weird and/or gross, but that's just the way people are. There's something very unique and special about the characters of animated worlds that you simply can't get with real people. There are things actors simply can't portray that animated characters can. That's my perspective.
In this case the attraction propably stems from the characters personalites and psycological traits rather than their animated physics. Just like you can lika a character from a movie more based on who that character is portrayed as rather than just appearance.
Because those characters are supposed to represent and reflect the actions and emotions of a real person. Those characters are so well written and played they feel real! Especially if there’s good qualities about the character, it makes them all the more attractive. (My first thought was definitely Zuko from ATLAB)
I see some of the respondents above are on the same page: attractiveness is not completely physical but on a mental wave length as well. Most people are drawn in or repelled in the first few seconds of meeting someone by their physical traits, and as they learn about the person's beliefs, opinions and mentality, our attraction can be swayed further either in the same direction or the opposite. The dialogue in animated videos help us identify with or against a character, the way a situation is handled by that character helps build fondness, sympathy, fear, anger, or other emotion towards the character, and relate to them or against them as if we were in that situation. Animated or live action, we relate to a show's or movie's characters, and feel sympathy if they are injured or die, or joy if something positive happens for them. We place a humanoid value on them, and see them as an emotional character gaining a like or dislike for them. This assists with the attractiveness aspect. Then fantasy kicks in, because to be honest reality isn't the greatest thing and an escape is sometimes needed.
Well anime is supposed to be somewhat to look more human based it's weird you can't really explain it you just look at them and are attracted i know plenty of people find it weird/disgusting but I honestly don't care what people think about it I mean plenty of people find a certain comic book character or super hero hot some just happen to like anime
I think some people are attracted to the animé like the person they are like the personality and charm of the drawing. And i think some people are drawn to the fact that its like unreal and imagine themselves being in world of animé where they could do what they want like an escape form real world and all the expectations on them. I don't understand the whole concept of anime porn though.
I think a lot of it has to do with personality. Quite often, main characters are portrayed with some level of desirable traits withing their personality. They can be witty, charismatic, brooding, a bad boy/girl etc. Now I can't say for sure but I think it may be similar to a blind person being in love with someone. They may not know what the person looks like but they can still love someone just like a person with vision can.
I don't know. It's not like a crush or something. Some just look attractive and they do look kinda human (anime). We're aware they're not real, it's just beautifully drawn and the persona can be nice. It's more like appreciation of the art, rather than finding it attractive as in how we could find a real guy attractive (where we actually could develop feelings for).
I don’t think that what happens in the mists of it we feel something I don’t think in the moment we are aware it’s not real I think that human beings not atually see the world for what it is and the anime is just another world
Well I don't really fall for the character design or how hot there suppose to look but rather for the personality the character has; like for example, I'm a big sucker for animated characters that are funny asf yet could go to serious with the snap of a finger.
I think a lot of the times it is the personality associated with that character that we adore, animated characters are dreamy, They're written to have a personality that a women would want and behave as a women's perfect man.

I try to explain as easy as i can. If you find female anime character attractive , its your Waifu. So , in my opinion , your Waifu , is reflection of you... I personaly find some characters attractive... mostly shy ones , because iam shy myself...

I can be attracted but I don't obsess and fancy it. It's art and the art style is attractive making us image they're humans. Like how stuff toys can be cute but they aren't real animals. They are art making us imagine they're real animals. We have imagination tho.
Its just like how people can find characters in books or video games or any other media attractive. Its not about the appearance but rather the personality of the character. I DM for dnd all the time and find my players thinking or commenting that my characters feel real sometimes. One player got into a discussion about how he finds just about any crazy chick attractive.

I thought that was Zuko for a sec. Yes. People can be attracted to animated characters oddly enough. They do have human features as well as personality so it's not in surprising.
Dude in cartoons or video games, or comics like deadpool and spiderman, they all usually act different than a normal person would and it makes them interesting. I like them because they can sometimes be relatable and be super cool at the same time.
It is mainly about personalities. They don't necessarily have to be returning physically attractive but if they are most of the times they don't have any mistakes or imperfections in their looks. People find compelling the characteristics these characters portray. Including voices which are actually human. It has nothing to do with looks. Look at Zoka ( I think it's spelled that way), Katara's brother, he doesn't look bad, but he is not attractive to most because of his personality.
Instead Zuko has a lot of mistery and really manly characteristics developed throughout the theme and as time goes on. Less people would be attracted to first season Zuko who was a reactivate guy, instead the calm and in control Zuko it's very attractive, as well as strength and a lot of value. People perceive their personalities and emotions as human , that's why there is a sympathy, like and even attraction to them, but it is very unlikely to lead to actual falling in love or something like that like a crush bc it is not real and people know it.

I know. It's my personal secret that I used to have crush on Jean Grey from X-Men evolution animated series. I used to feel terrible about her not being real. Thank god I am not as obsessed with her as I was back in my teens.
