Why is anime seen as something criminal by parents and a lot of people?

Most people who have not actuallt watched anime consider it a cartoon and feel like it's weird for an adult to spend his free time watching cartoons. And if they actually see something weird out of context they just consider it even weirder.

me too man! a friend of mine hated anime! but when i showed him some fighting anime like baki the grappler and hajime no ippo he became addicted and won't stop talking about them! that also happened with a female friend of mine a couple of years ago that was a "diva" and supposedly didn't care about these shit, then i showed her naruto and i think i created a monster! lol

Well it can be pretty weird.

However there's something for everyone. Anime has many genres so if you think something is too unrealistic or weird you can try something else.
