I just dont get why people think its somehow bad if you enjoy a certain art style
It honestly makes no sense to me and people usually refuse to explain why do they even have a reason for why they think its bad?

I think it is because people are not always open to new things and because of that when they see Anime, they treat it as something "New" which it is, it is foreign so they haven't grown up seeing it, which leads to them thinking of it as a less desirable experience.
This happens with people who are less willing to try new things and also who grew up with specific cartoons and children's programs perhaps?
But the main point is interesting in why they always say things like
"Oh it's cringy"
"That's Weeaboo stuff"
"All anime is just Hentai"
"It's too sexual"
"It's weird"
And more.
I think the reason for this now is because the sexual anime is typically very widely shown online which is giving a bad image for anime in general and as for the "It's all weeaboo stuff" people refuse to actually learn what the word means and just use it as a derogatory statement.
I can't say it isn't sexual because a lot of anime's do have some sexual content, that isn't to say they are all 100% based on sexual content.
But it is certainly true that for the most part people are reluctant to watch anime without fair reason, but there is no point stressing over it, everyone has their own tastes and if they don't want to give anime a chance then there is no point trying to get them to enjoy it like we do :)
Keep watching anime and have a wonderful day! <3
I'd guess part of it is the cultural differences. Something that is acceptable in one culture may be offensive or annoying to another (moe, genki, being overly demure, tsundere (esp. when violent it seems like spousal abuse) tripping and falling facefirst into titties, the whole loli thing).
Generally, I find a community will be defined by its most offensive members. If someone sees you as an anime fan (when they know almost no anime fans) they'll think you're like the unpleasant people they've heard rumors of.
In terms of art style, anime tends to be less fluid in animation, more talky, more sexual, and more violent than American cartoons (at least when I was growing up).
I'll also note that I think cringe is what happens when someone feels "secondhand embarrassment" for you. It's something that they would be embarrassed to do/say but not officially bad to do.
It's past 1am and this was a very ranty response. Sorry about that. If you find joy in it, that's cool, and I hope it inspires you to learn and create as well (playing music, writing, studying photography or mastering volleyball, etc.). That's a pretty reliable way to feel comfortable with yourself, in my opinion.
Yeah that's fair. Some people are more open-minded than others. Tbh now that I'm older I don't really hear people say that (except for a coworker in high school). It may mostly be a part of the teenage experience, as that's a time when people are extra sensitive about feeling awkward. I think that's a big assumption to make considering I don't know the culture of your local peers, but I wrote it. I'm down to chat more later but now I gotta snooze.
There are many kinds of anime. So it depends. With different time, anime has changed too. I'm a fan as well. People who don't read manga or watch anime wouldn't understand. Show them good ones. There are times I explained to friends why I like anime over tv series (local ones). I learned a lot from anime. Being inspired to draw, to cook, to be observant like some characters, I am now acquired skills basically from anime. Sometimes the authors create stories based on history and interesting science. Look up for more information and references from other sources. You could have some knowledge apart from studying in classes to talk about with your friends and parents.
the characters have obnoxious voices and propagate Asian chicks to the docile stereotype even more than porn
The super slutty outfits and annoying voice and the childish ways the characters act make it seem like the norm of how an Asian girl would act and men who watch too much of it have an immense disrespect to Asian women and don't know they are being racist with their "favor" of Asian women.
They are just being rude if they don’t enjoy a certain anime style or anime in general.

I think it has more to do with the personality of the person watching it.
These animes are a weird blend of sexual, childish and overly deep. Which can be cool and all but if you don't get it, it's gonna be really hard to accept. Especially when a majority of people who openly enjoy anime are just odd people who don't seem to have any desire to be a part of reality.
Not that I personally have much of a problem with any of that stuff, be yourself. Just saying what I think no one else knows how to say.
And that annoys people. Honestly it's probably for really similar reasons it took people so long to get used to gays.
Thats fine, im not hating. I'm just saying that's how I feel a lot of people see it. I was 14 thinking the exact same thing once when I used to spend a whole afternoon watching anime.
I was a big Naruto fan, but when I was all caught up on it I used to watch Rideback, before anyone who spoke English even knew what it was. I flipped when they dubbed that. Holic I used to watch and Tsubasa. I also remember watching all of death note in like, two days.
It's basically about this girl who was a ballerina and got a career threatening injury. So she eventually met these people who had an experimental sports vehicle. . . think like a motorcycle. And her background in dancing made her a really good. And some other stuff hapened too obviously. A lot of it is hard to remember since it was so long ago.
Probably because the people who like it tend to be hella weird. The more normal people that like it don't want to be lumped in with this lot so you end up with a fan that looks like this and... Well who wants to be a fan of whatever this guy is a fan of, you know? That and ridiculous breast physics sort of turn off people. I LOVED Gundam Thunderbolt: December Sky. If you love mechs and Jazz it's fucking awesome but I wouldn't call myself a fan of anime because so much of it is trite shit. And also these guys.

I have friends who like it and they are not weird so uh i kinda think anime fans being weird is just something people say since they can't think of anything else when a person asks them why they think anime is cringy anyway uh the thing that bothers me with it isint that people dont like anime its uh the thing where they dont want anyone else to like what they dont like and then they bother others about it
It happens with other stuff than anime too also
... No it's also over dramatic, cliché, wish fulfillment, a lot of it reduces women to objects, trite, there are a few shining examples that even normal people can enjoy, but there is a sea of hackneyed ones that it makes it unaccessible to most people. Not literally but the sheer amount of anime most of it hot trash means normal people won't even know where to begin.
Also forgot the music which can be weird and off putting to most people. There are a few good ones, probably.
The only thing that can sometimes be cringey is fan service
Haha at a certain point its too much!
Yes anime girls are kawaii, but when they purposely show the cleavage and stuff, it can be cringey for non-anime fans.
Other people think its cringey because its a cartoon... I still watch anime, I am 23 and some people think I am cringe for watching it still. They think adults can't enjoy cartoons.
They dont realize anime usually has more elaborate themes, concepts, and ideas than spongebob
@Vallius86 Yes, exactly, but many people dont understand that.
probably stereotypes
manga and anime could range from school girls with squeaky voice to
Dorohedoro (I can only describe this as 'undeadpunk', because whatever it is, it's anti life)

or Blame! (a silent visual ballad of a man climbing a self replicating vertical structure the size of a planet...)
Here's a few possibilities:
It's animated and people believe animation is a medium for children, so people watching anime is, for most people, the same as an adult playing with toys.
The community is full of elitist degenerates. Trust me I know, I'm one of those elitist degenerates.
Another possibility is that anime tackles subject matter in strange and, as some would say, childish ways.
Then there's the other side of anime where almost everything is hyper sexualized in a medium that, to most, targets children.
There's plenty more but I don't have the time to list them.
One thing I have noticed is it seems that a lot of people, especially americans, generally tend to mock anything that they themselves do not like or understand, they are not open-minded, nor do they have any desire to understand what someone else likes, not to mention they tend to buy into stereotypes about they think anime watchers are like.
This kind of content and weaboos

To many people, anime is represented as a whole by the worst parts of the art. Nobody's seen Samurai Champloo, but everyone knows what hentai is.
Either that, or they don't realize there's anime that's geared towards adult-age viewers. When your first thought is DBZ or Pokemon, it's easy to view something as childish. Have these people seen Death Note or GANGSTA? No.
Because they haven't seen good anime.
Had they seen AKIRA or Grave of the Fireflies from the get go they wouldn't look down on anime. My current favorite on hiatus anime is Shingeki no Kyojin. I hope they complete Full Metal Panic! IV Invisible War (I read the manga).
Just avoid Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the Northstar). It's overlong, is a pre-cursor to drawn out battles seen in Dragonball Z, has some lazy animation, uses recycled scenes way too much. It also retcons most of the origins of villains and heroes in series 2. Thankfully I am only 13 episodes away from finishing it. It's an 152 episode slogfest most of the time.
Nothing wrong with anime. People have a big tendency to "fear" what they don't understand... so their reactions can range from disappointment to hate, etc. Don't take their inability to understand something personally; rather, feel confident in the face you are most likely more open minded.
Umm tentacles, sexualised 13 year olds, the anime scream. Chibi, loli, harem, Ecchi.
Now obviously I watch anime so I know that it isn't true but when you say anime, the first thing that comes into their heads is hentai, that or Goku and Frieza screeming at each other not moving for 100 episodes.
Also weebos are cringy as hell.
Yeah, thankfully Toonami decided to showcase Cowboy Bebop, FLCL and GUNDAM for a bit.
A lot of people don't understand anime and mistake it for hentai or cartoons. This misunderstanding will lead to people disliking anime or thinking it is "cringy."
I don’t think it’s cringe I just don’t enjoy hearing the annoying voices 😂😂
Anime cringes me out simply because of the bizarre need for every character to add an extension on the end of every other characters name - chan, sama etc - actual Japanese people don't do that shit unless it's needed or expected to be that formal.
Because a lot of anime fans are cringy. Sorry lol but it just is what it is, not always the case, but a lot of times it is.
@bangyourhead rock on brother! 🤘🤙
People think it's cringy because there are popular subgenres that are truly and deeply cringey.
I've never heard that opinion before. It would be a natural selection for me though, to know who would never ever be my friend. :D
I like some anime but i just can't understand the characters standing still yelling at each other. Lol
Not all anime is Dragonball Z. Check out Planetes or Serei no Moribito.
@October808 i will lol
Oh and do check out MONSTER about a serial killer. The animation style avoids the big eyed character and more of a realistic look. It's also really violent.
@October808 oooo 😗
It's only cringy when there's too many very similar stories about the anime
Some people don’t think about it. They assume it’s simply a cartoon/comic book and instantly turn their attention away.
I have no idea. There are a lot of good Japanese anime films and shows. Cowboy Bepbop, The Gundam series and Studio Ghibli films being great examples.
I don't know in my opinion I dont like anime I just thing anime characters are ugly
Because there are weeaboos who makes anime look bad
Maybe it's because a lot of people fall in love while being so unrealistic which is the opposite of real people.
But you know it won't matter what people thing. Normal don't exist anymore. Everyone's just judging eachother
Because the biggest fans are fat virgin dudes wearing fedora hats, with pubes for mustaches. They branded anime as something for loosers.
People are usually idiots... just watch what you feel... there are some animes better then any movie out there
This is not an exaggeration. The short OVA series FLAG was brilliant. Ditto for FREEDOM (yes it's all in caps). Then you have the classic Buublegum Crisis which is where James Cameron got his idea for the T-1000 from.
Because it really is lol and most people who like ot are weird af
Because it is. It's so horribly written and acted that it's just embarrassing.
because they don't watch it and appreciate it for what it really is like we do
I like watching anime because to me I find they tell better story arches than what all these other shows they have on TV
The anime itself is not cringey. The fans can be the reason why though
I have no idea. I think because it just gives people something to talk about to kill time
A lot of it is. I like some of it, but otherwise, I hate it
Because much of it is.
No clue, people are dumbasses, anime is great
i don't think it's cringy
Beeeecause it is!
