Well, it is. Yes, I watch anime and love it actually, but it is childish in my humble opinion. It is childish in regard of how it (very often) represents life and how the characters act - it's not real and sometimes if one really thinks about how they react it's just abnormal.
So it's childish in a sense of bad innocent naiveness (I don't take darkest animes, since there it's all about blood and/or murder and/or fighting and there is commonly just literally nothing worth watching in it).
At the same time some animes try to deal with philosophical topics or with psychology or spirituality aspects for which movie makers don't even have a single thought always keeping it on a simple level and with an "appropriate" degree of flatness.
So in this respect some animes are between books and films, where books are placed the highest obviously. But in the respect I spoke about first animes are below movies and books.
Some anime has literally changed my life completely, because I saw a weird and uncommon property of my nature presented there and was able to relate directly and to change towards better myself after seeing how the character changed. It made me another person speaking without exaggeration.
When one knows and sees the flaws of animes and, what I didn't mention yet, when one has learned to see brainwashing attempts they sometimes incorporate, and picks from the watched the good parts with consciousness, then anime can be a good thing for relaxation or even learning something for life. And the latter certainly isn't childish.
I have, and I don't think it's childish at all! Anime can have some very mature, well-written stories and characters!
I think most people who say that it is immature never really gave it a chance in the first place and are only going on stereotypes.
Childish? Been watching anime sense Pokemon, Digimon and Sailor moon came to America. It's not childish. Let them watch some adult anime or anime with adult themes they'll rethink their opinions. That's like saying watching Family Guy is childish because it's a cartoon. Yet it's a cartoon for adults. Can childish people watch It? Absolutely. But they watch Game of Thrones and Empire also. Anime is a medium of entertainment no different than what the watch. I have tons of it in my collection. But not every anime is worth watching sadly. They just need a show they can gravitate to.
Anime is seriously underrated... lol people sometimes just watch it because it’s popular, but it’s most times it has a better storyline than R-rated movies. I love it, and if you have something bad to say about it, I don’t give a shit, and I’ll be happy to waste your time.

No, I don't think anime is childish. Some anime can be very interesting and amazing, for example, 'Death Note'.

Some of it can be childish; but others can be quite adult oriented. Anime is more of a style of cartoons; and there are plenty of adult cartoons out there. If someone else tells you that it is childish ask them if Family Guy is for kids. Then have them watch one of the raunchier animes and ask them if they still feel that way.

It mainly depends on the anime. As a whole I'd have to say no though. Anyone that disagrees simply hasn't watched anime at all and has based their opinion on the fact that it's animated, or has only seen pokemon. Anime can have very complex themes, storylines, and characters. Way too complex for children to grasp. Not to mention the violence and language showcased in some. No, anime isn't childish unless it was made specifically for children.
I think it's like watching live comic books. Doesn't do a thing for me, but if you like it, why not?
