I have unfortunately seen a correlation between video games and emotional immaturity. However, that's with guys who are absolutely obsessed, not ones with jobs who just play a little bit after work and still have lives outside of them.

I think it's fine as a hobby to enjoy, but when it becomes a guy's entire identity and he has no life outside of them, that's when I notice how immature those guys seem to be and the fact that they also tend to be socially inept since they never socialize and only play games.

While true, that's a limited window of gamers. Most I know are married, have kids and still play when they can usually after hours. Lol
I've been considered obsessed which I find funny because I work, am married with children and take time with everyone, as well as make games as a professional hobby.
I'm more worried about game addiction more anything.

@GreatnessBack Yes, the guys I'm talking about were addicted, literally. Couldn't ever put the controller down and acted like they'd die if they went without video games for an hour, neglected their relationships (not just romantic, but familial, friendships, etc.), and had no motivation to do anything else in their lives.

I see. That's not immaturity, that's addiction. It's no different than being addicted to smack.

@GreatnessBack Yes, that's not what makes them immature though, it's the way they act in general. Many of them still behave and think like children or young teens.

Immature people are immature people. It is not an indicator of immaturity. But how many hours they put in vs work, quality time with others, etc can be.

If it's done occasionally it's fine. I used to play them for long hours in the age period of 9 to 14. I'm 20 now and I can't play right now cause of school and career choices. I hardly remember that I used to be a gamer but I never feel like going back and playing again cause the stuff I do is important as of now. Yet I play on my laptop for an hour or two per month and I'm doing just fine.

Why would they be immature? I perosnally dont play games, but I have a bunch of friends who play everyday and heavr healthy relationships with their gfs/wifes

Its something that makes them relaxed, if someone you like plays games you should probably like it also

Not, video games are part of the life nowadays.
I like to put just dance on parties, and I play fitness from wii. To difference of gym, it does not close, and I would have lost these Christmas if I hadn't it.
But being all the day with video games without being a gamer...
    It's another story.

    No.
It's the same as so many other recreational activities.
Imagine thinking that watching TV or movies is somehow more "mature." That doesn't make sense. Same for reading most fiction or listening to music, etc. It's all the same shit. I usually associate "immaturity" (not that literal term because it's a shit term and people are dumb for using it, but something in a more articulate vein) with the people who think their shit is above what everyone else likes. The same people think that wearing business suit or just some 'smart casual' look makes them more "mature" (whatever that nebulous term means) than the person wearing the graphic T-shirt. But since when do clothes define a person's character?
Basically the "immature" people are the ones trying too hard to be adults.

No I play video games it’s good to pass the time. I live in a undeveloped city so there’s not much to do other than get in trouble, club, & party. That gets old real quick and I’m not into like those things. I do enjoy playing video games and there’s nothing immature about it. Developers and testers get paid tons of money to create video games. People make a careers out of it. They are very wealthy and successful.

Look, anyone can and should have a hobby. Thusly, my answer would be the same for every "do you think X that Y [for fun] are immature?": No. If you get your kicks from collecting paper clips, you are not strange or whatever. Maybe if you get your kicks on trying to collect every single paperclip in the world, dedicating all your free time to it, I'd draw a line. See it? The difference between "something you enjoy" and "something you do too much"

Every human of every age must play, being videogames, cards, social games, watching movies/TV, sudoku, whatever

If you have any hobby or entertainment which you spend some time on, you can't not tolerate someone else having one

    No.

Video games are just toys. Adults like toys, too.

I don't trust adults who think they don't like toys when they have a chance. They've lost touch with their inner child and are overdue for their existential crisis.

I think someone whose whole life seems to be video games is immature.

Iike piano in asia, it is a symbol that Asian wish to be rich. So play it from childhood that edited it for children. So their impression stay it. Then they said you are childish when they still listen to songs.

It's not that you play video games so much as how toxic of a habit it is to them. Are you able to interact with other humans normally? Can you have a meaningful conversation with it being about a video game? What's more important... getting laid or playing?

Playing a game with friends before going out, in between classes or after playing basketball, etc. is fun.
It is a game like everything else. My family plays video games together. We also go on hikes, travel, play musical instruments, outdoor activities, etc.

The average gamer is actually my age lol. It always kills me when people criticize video games and then sit down and watch TV, which is actually less healthy and productive than playing video games.

People can make so much damn money off of video games if they reach a competitive level too. You won't be calling a guy who plays video games immature when he makes over 6 figures from tournaments.

A wealthy person that plays videos games CAN show a lack of an age appropriate emotional/intellectual development.

The ability to make money gaming isn't a sign of maturity or not, just luck. However, gaming itself isn't a sign of immaturity, just a show of a person with a hobby. When it comes at the expense of reality and like hygiene and social interaction, it can be problematic, but so can anything.

Video games are seen as immature because after the video game crash noone wanted to touch them, so a little company called Nintendo decided not to market their console as a computer but a toy. The fact that video games are immature is a misconception.

Ok what about all the games you create stuff for example Roblox you can make a game also Minecraft you can make so many amazing things there are games where you can spend literally hours on the character design that is a art form you create a character. City building games you can create beautiful city's is that not art. There are painting games where you can create art. Games can be anything.

@SarahsSummer video games can be an art form its juat when people think of video games they think mario or recent shooter gorefest. We dont say that music isn't an art form because the charts and radio are filled with uninspired paint by number pop hits, we dont say that film isn't an art form because of trash reality tv. Not all games are art but that doesn't mean that video games aren't an art form (though I prefer the term interactive media but there's a reason that we call them "games"). Even if you can't see games as art then you have to admit that they contain art and in some ways that at least makes games a virtual art gallery of sorts.

It is part of the question because it depends what you're playing, if you play immature games then fine but some people play games for narratives and world building. How is that any different from literature or film? Is a game like "That Dragon, Cancer" immature for example.

As for video games in museums near me we have the National Science and Media Museum that has and entire exhibit dedicated to video games. Not that I think being in a museum is a benchmark for if somethings art, "modern art" exhibits have proved that to me.

That's your opinion that they are lame and it my opinion ridding motorbikes is lame but how does that change anything. How do video games being in your opinion lame make them immature. Also have you even seen all the different types there are or you just seen one type.

@Iamagoodguy video games are like masterbating. You sit home alone and spend time doing it and then when you step outside the world is the same. Nothing has been accomplished. This is the heart of why its for losers.

You clearly don't know there are things called you know inviting a friend over and playing games you can invite a few friends over and have a ton of fun in any weather. And I don't think spending time with your friends means you haven't accomplished anything. and so what if when I step outside nothing changes what changes of you go for a ride on your motorcycle not much.

@Iamagoodguy clearly you are a very small minority of video game players that only play when you have a bunch of friends over. I've never seen this in practice but good for you. And i ride my motorcycle to different events and meet people and learn new things. I recently rode to an archy range about 3 hours away and learned more about bow hunting. I didn't sit in the dark and learn about orcs and magic and aliens.
