Eventually, in a relationship, one expects that the two people in a couple will either live together or at the very least spend a huge amount of time together and listening to music is a large part of life. So it is always better of each either likes or tolerates the music the other listens to. So I think we all care to a certain extent. I your significant other can't stand opera and it's the only thing you will listen to eventually that can lead to arguments.
