A guy friend sent me this song. My brother told me a long time ago that this guy had a huge crush on me many years ago when we all worked together and I didn’t believe it. Then, friendship rekindled, I ask about upbeat road trip music and he sends me this, an achingly romantic song about a girl who has gone away and how the guy is stuck missing her. I left our hometown to go away for school and work, and he asked me when I would come back and visit. I haven’t yet. I always stop myself short of going. And it got me thinking of the gift he gave me when I left, how I kept it in my bedroom for over a decade, how I told people about him... I was in love with him. And realizing that, and hearing this song, I dare not hope that it’s a secret confession that he still had feelings for me. Because I’m afraid I would torch my whole life and run into his arms if that were true.
