It's all about promotion. The promoters promote the fight in a sense they're the ones that make the fight happen. A fighter may be no match for another fighter and that fighter may even know it deep down. But if they offer him a big enough payday he'll agree to the fight. And there's always a chance he CAN win. It works the other way as well sometimes you have the guy win the belt that the champion took too lightly. And the people around him try to keep him on top by only fighting has been etc.
Of course they compete. But you ever notice that when you watch it on t. v. you got one guy who has a undefeated record or maybe 1 or 2 losses and a vast majority of them are knockouts. He's just usually being groomed as the next big thing. He's usually matched up against guys he can beat He's still got to go out and beat them though.
Way back in the day Mike Tyson was about as unbeatable as the come. After him piling up win after win and belt after belt had a title defense against a guy called Buster Douglas. But Tyson was always a tightly reigned fighter by trainer Cus D'Amato. After he passed away. Tyson didn't have the same support structure and it showed in his fights. Douglas was a 42 to 1 underdog. I still say Tyson wasn't knocked out. He went down to his knees but didn't work very hard or fast to get back to his feet. It was the 10th round. And in recent history at that time Tyson fights seldom. Went more than a couple.
I guess the point I'm making from this was Tyson was a great fighter, Ali was a great fighter. And not to take anything away from Ali. But we remember him as the greatest because he told us every 4 seconds. How memorable do you think I would be if he was less vocal like Frazier?
Not to take anything away from Tyson but was he unbeatable in his younger days? Or was he well promoted? Maybe it's a little bit of both.
Boxing has been a joke for a long while now... for this and for many other reasons, more than a sport and a competition... it has been a business, merely for entertainment. That's what has been and what's what we have now.
well... I don't know much about it really but the NBA already seems to be a bit out of control... when it comes to players changing teams constantly and sort of "picking their team mates" as condition to sign contracts... again, I am not sure if cap salaries are in place but, whatever has been going on this last years is not in the spirit of a more fair competition

Isn't this true in MMA too?
I remember seeing a guy basically stalking the champ and going where ever he was going and trying to intimidate him into getting a shot.
Then he got his ass beat when they got the match.
I guess so, I wasn't aware of this until now that @In_Trance confirmed it. from here on now I think I think the only fighting sport I will take serious is WWE and other pro wrestling, even though they are staged
Because you can't force people at gunpoint to do shit you want them to do.
If that's your logic then don't ever get out of your basement because real people aren't your sock puppets.
Stupid, he fought Pac-Man and lost. He’d beat Canelo if they fought tomorrow. Stop being a hater
oh look a Mayweather fan decided to grow balls and talk. till then which one lost cause he was declared the winner when he fought Pac-Man and must I remind you that Pac-Man coincidentally injured his shoulder that night, so if that's not the work of luck then I dont know what luck is.
and didn't he already beat Canelo? so yeah I have all my rights to be a hater when it comes to lifting up the skirts of pussy ass puppets who call themselves athletes and have the nerves to shame legends
Oh yes you can, especially when you refuse fights you know you’re gonna lose at, only fight boxers who are below your league, only fight bigger dudes then you when they’re a borderline retired, running around the ring like a chicken and lastly buying the judges then you’re bound to have 50-0. Hell there are boxers that’s done better believe it or not
I guess that's strategy.
that's what's in the contract
