I can't think of any possible cast that has a reasonable chance of making a Super Mario movie decent, although I think I'd at least pick a cast with a higher chance than that.
If I were to attempt making a Super Mario film, it would be targeted at ages 3-7. There is no material here! There's an Italian plumber guy who collects mushrooms to get bigger and flowers to spit fireballs. What is there to work with? We got Yoshi in the newer ones. So we can ride a dinosaur that eats turtles and spits them out.
I'd make it like Pee-Wee Herman episodes and hire voice actors who can be as ridiculous as Pee-Wee. And I want a hard G rating. I'm aiming for toddlers here.
There actually is a bit of lore that fans have figured out through clues and assumptions. It's that the Mushroom Kingdom runs on a co-dependent relationship of Peach being kidnapped by Bowser and Bowser is basically just "playing the bad guy" in order to keep balance and stability to the Mushroom Kingdom (which explains how he can go Go-karting and play tennis with the people who should be his sworn enemies and how he never gets arrested or jailed after being defeated in each game).
Hollywood doesn't know how to appeal to kids anymore or not interject their politics into sh*t. I'd assume the movie was going to be woke, but Nintendo, and Japan in general, doesn't do "woke" and they hired Chris Pratt and Anya Taylor-Joy, who unlike Seth Rogen's "white guilt" behind, are actually centrist/right-leaning. Pratt is a devout Christian, in fact. So it gives me hope the movie at least won't have politics in it.
Well, I'm not the biggest Mario or Nintendo fan so nothing bad happening would leave a bad taste in my mouth. I do like Jack Black a lot and I think Chris Pratt is a good guy.
I just hope it's better than the last waste of film they called a Super Mario Brothers movie. My dad talked about it so I looked up info on it on YouTube.
I always love seeing those 26 and younger see the 1993 Super Mario Brothers movie for the first time. It was BAD, even for the 90s, when the Mario franchise was only eight years old. But almost no video game movies existed back then, so people were more willing to go "Well, I guess they tried to make it more mainstream." It truly was the Dragonball Evolution of its time.
And there were SO many questionable choices made in it, that even for its time, made no sense. Why is Bowser a humanoid? Why do they only refer to him by his last name (Koopa)? Why is Daisy the main female lead and not Princess (Peach) Toadstool? Why is Toad a hipster? Why the dinosaur plot, when the only game that involved dinosaurs up to that point was Super Mario World and they had never been part of the Mario games before that? Why the evolution storyline? And so on. They could've easily made the movie an epic tale of traversing several different worlds to rescue a kidnapped princess and they went with THAT. Trust me when I say, even by 90s standards, none of it made sense. Younger kids can only imagine why they made so many awful choices.

Well Seth Rogan does resemble Donkey Kong and how can you race swap fantasy characters?

Why would you do a movie on smash bros? Western movie industry is soul sucking.
Super Mario bros*
They saw the Sonic movie did well and wanted to copy them. The thing is, the Sonic movie was TERRIBLE and only did so well because the director changed the original nightmare fuel look for Sonic and people went to see it out of respect for them appreciating the fans. The actual movie's plot and story was still lame and clearly something they jumbled together out of a marketing team of what the "Fellow Kids think is lit" these days. The Mario movie looks like it's going to be even more tone deaf.
I'm confused as to why they didn't get actual Italian voice actors... you know for the two characters who are Italian.
I’m not going to watch it so I don’t really have an opinion
They should at least have gotten Charles Martinet to play Mario and Luigi...
Might wait for the Japanese release to get Japanese audio
Hell yes!!!
