No... kinda. I want more of a particular race, only if that is what the market demands. NOT because of percentages. If the company wants a bigger share of the black market, then accommodate. the same for Latino, White, etc.
Trying to socially-engineer ANY product, is a bad idea, morally and economically. Should the Blues musicians I like, be forced to make 'Hip-Hop' songs because they don't sell enough to teenagers? Should my barber be forced to take less crew-cut requests, until she does more 'corn-rows' - so it evens out the ratio of typical Whites to Black customers? Fuck that, and fuck you for pretending that doing so is okay, as it is only misguided and RACIST!
Yes, singling-out one group in lieu of another, based solely on race, is racist... By definition!
Now, if it happened that the Animator's supervisors/bosses/administrators specifically directed the staff to exclude black skin, black facial features, and/or black voice-actors, while ignoring the market research and demographics... with the specific intention of somehow 'oppressing' the entire ethnicity... then yeah, THAT would be racist.
But the entire Social-Justice 'movement, seems like it's one big slap-in-the-face to the real heroes of the Civil Rights tribulations of the 1960's. I mean, really... c'mon people... "Anime"?
Sincerely, everyone; If you are a fan of that genre, and think you would enjoy seeing characters what look like you and your family/friends, then go ahead and write an email. Or get together with your friends, family, or other fans online, and mail some polite requests. These networks are trying to earn a profit, and would LOVE to do things that will make that more likely! But... a bunch of White liberals making demands on behalf of some other group, who probably has more important issues they'd like addressed - is just sad, self-righteous, and appalling (in my humble opinion). And, it is just my HUMBLE opinion; because I am NOT an ethnic minority, I can't know how they feel, BUT IT ALSO MEANS I HAVE NO RIGHT SAYING what I think that group wants or needs. THAT is truly some racist shit... Thinking you are the front-line of racism. Fuck you! Do the world a favor: Stay in college, swallow what your instructors give you to swallow, and leave us working-adults alone... Things will be fine without you.
Oh, yeah... stop talking so loud at Starbucks... no one finds you interesting.
Most overseas profit come from other Asian countries not west
When it's relevant, sure. The vast majority of anime shows and movies originate from Japan, and also take place in Japan, or fictional worlds that are based on either Japan or (medieval) Europe. If you've ever been to Japan, you may have noticed that there's basically nobody with skin darker than an average tan over there, so it stands to reason that there would be virtually no black people in anime when it isn't relevant to the story in some way, usually as a travelling foreigner or side character with a background that helps the story along.
Plenty take place in China or fiction world based on China too
Claiming that all anime character are Japanese is not wrong in sakamoto days
main female lead is Chinese and Umehito Nekozawa is Russian from aouran highschool host club and there is kingdom and DBZ which is based on Chinese culture and AOT and vinland saga is based on European culture. And plenty of hafa in anime asoka from Neon Genesis Evangelion is half German
I mean lu is Chinese in sakamoto days you can make her black immigrant or daughter of black immigrant in Japan yes they exist or killua father was Russian and mother was Japanese could had made his father black or make show based on Africa
I quite enjoy good racial representation in anime (cuz sometimes there's stereotypical depictions as well and that looks awkward as hell) but they shouldn't force it for the sake of diversity. That never works in my opinion. If there's more we'll written and depicted black characters in anime that would be great! But I don't think that it's a "should" as if they have to fit a quota or something.
Yes, I like seeing them. A lot of dark skinned Asians and blasians exist in Asia so it’d be cool to see stories about them in anime.
One of my favorite black anime characters will forever be michiko milandro though

Which anime is she from?
Opinion

No more than there should be black actors playing characters that were not written black.
Diversity is one thing, but forcing diversity over decent storytelling and authenticity is a sure way to flop whatever you're doing.
Just like a movie about an African tribe should be an all black cast, a show about polish folklore should be an all white cast because there simply was no "Diversity" in Poland thousands of years ago, and yes I'm talking about the witcher, this woke netflix monstrosity
Yes I hated forced diversity in witcher. I am Asian I was just asking because some black people wanted more dark skinned character in anime nothing more nothing else
It's a difficult thing really because Asians for some reason in anime don't draw themselves as Asians but as white.
Then for some odd reason some character like an old grandpa character will look stereotypically Japanese.
So races in anime and manga are kinda have weird rule sets and they all do it differently for some reason.
Personally i don't care what there portrayed like longs if them characters are good. So i wouldn't support it nor be ageist it. Until i see the final result on a base by base character.
Which i suppose is also the least racist thing to do since i am not judging on race.
Tbh if were talking fiction on a whole i think this about all works of fictions an example There shouldn't be just more horror stories with a gay main role for the sake of been gay.
Just let the creators work at it. And if they happens to be less gay characters to straight characters it's mostly not gonna be a conspiracy theory that them writers were homophobics.
It's just what they felt like would work the best to the story.
Well depends which anime you are talking about since some anime take place in made up world where people can be of any race but people are usually Japanese if anime take place in Japan. I mean in Naruto writer have said that Naruto is American Sasuke is Japanese sakura is European in one piece luffy is Brazilian (could be Japanese Brazilian or mixed like most Brazilian zoro is Japanese and nami is Swedish. For example Shoya Ishida in silent voice is Japanese
Also if you are talking about anine character being blonde or blue eye's actually brown or black hair is most common color in anime I have watched many anime and blonde or ginger hair mean nothing when character can have pink or blue hair or purple or red eye's. Other than it White people with big eye's have almond shaped and Japanese with big eye's have round like anime character and most anime character have wider face skinnier body and their eye close when they smile and small eyes like most Japanese.
Eye and hair color is personality trait. White hair mean that character is more calm red eyes mean that character is more dangerous. And big eye's are common because it is easier to show emotion through big eye's. But many Japanese also have big eye's
Also there are real white people in anime if you want to see it than check vinland saga it is based on Viking and compare it with silent voice where almost all characters are Japanese. White people in anime look different. I don't know why anime character look white to you.
And Asian girls are very good in cosplaying Asian character it won't have been possible if they were actually White
Some cosplay
https://images.app.goo.gl/LmQNYqS7QNwxiSK8A
Well not anime but anime style Chinese game and character is Asian

well to your last point two words "Black Butler" And many other animes were you could tell me there were japanese if it wasn't for the set of the show been were it is and speech i wouldn't be able to tell.
But the rest is all true. Not to be dismissive but i think all that kinda points to maybe your just over thinking a lot of it. I think most of anime is supposed to be just kinda watch it, and it only really matter's if they make it stand out for a plot purpose.
But in a world which like you said can be set anywhere, have bright white hair from birth, to red eyes and etc.
I don't think it's meant to be super literal in that sense. Until it's made obvious by a pure creators choice. For example an anime could be set in a Rural African setting yet my character has bright blue hair and green eyes but is a Black African man. It's not really something we need to nit pick at.
Nvm if we start bringing aliens into the Topic like Goku just to make the whole thing even more complex. A monkey? but not? a alien that looks human? but does he appear as if he is white? Or does he appear Asian?
And why i say Asians don't depict themselves as so and look white as well is because Asians have a different tone of skin to us. Yet anime characters do not show this. Apart from the ones made stereotypically Japanese or something.
Either way it's all a complex mess. That i for one think is... thinking on it to hard tbh. But i can see why one would have passion for this especially if your a one who is into maybe anime creation and character creation for it.
Do you have read everything I have said? There are light skinned Japanese through most singer's and actor skin look like anime character. Only solution is to give everyone stereotypical slant eye's but than Japanese with double eyelid won't get represented
Please tell me
Most anime character have brown hair or black hair and hair color like green or eye color like red exist. So is it weird to say that anime with blonde hair are blonde for showing personality while they still look Japanese facial features wise.
Real white people look different if all of them were white than East Asian and European character would look same.
Why Asian girls are so good in cosplaying?
And don't you agree that white people with big eye's have almond shapes eyes while anime character usually have rounder eye's and white people nose is bigger while Japanese have smaller nose. Same with white people face is more rectangular while
most anime character don't have face shape like that. White people body mass and frame is bigger most anime character have small frame like Japanese.
I have told you so many reason why they're not white. It don't stop here revy is Chinese with tan skin I still see white people who think that she is white and brock is Japanese with small eye's I see black people claiming that he is black. So dark skinned anime character are black? And light skinned one are white? Do you seriously believe it? This sound crazy to me how white and black people keep claiming anime characters
Than why you think that they look White? White people even claim tan skinned Asian characters like revy and black people claim dark skinned small eye Asian characters like brock so? Do you seriously believe that all characters in anime are black or white? Other races brown Asian don't exist?
Yeah you simply think about this way more than me. I don't care to argue about it. Because when i watch anime i just like to watch it. Not take everything so literal. I was just giving my point of view from what my experience of it is.
If you feel more qualified and know more about it then great apply to your work or your thoughts. I don't really have that kinda thought pattern when watching it.
Because you making a racist statement. I am Asian and most of them look Asian to me. I have literally have proven it to you why they look Asian. Everything is not about black or White. i hope that you would understand it and won't say it again because you don't have any proof
Yea you don't want to think about it because you want to claim light skinned Asian characters like kaguya or tan one like revy and black people would claim dark skinned Asian character like nagatoro and Brock. Asian don't get anything even after making anime and those anime character being based on Asian culture and having Asian name fuck it do you want me to accept it? I refused
No it is not racist claiming that most anime character look white is racist or claiming that most dark skinned anime character look black is also racist. You are erasing Asian from their own work and culture
I was telling you about those character as example. I mean you think that most anime character look white so?
Well I just want you to stop saying that most anime character look white. You don't understand how racist it is. And I am sure that you are able to understand almost everything but whatever.
So i shouldn't say what i see? I had zero clue Naruto was American before you told me i 100% thought he was Asian. Because the way anime don't really differentiate in my eyes.
And i am not saying it needs to change or anything alike. Just simply i don't see it. There is nothing racist about it. I just cannot visualize it. Which maybe just the way my brain works when it comes to this media. Unlike how IRL yeah i could tell the difference.
That's not be racist, i cannot help the way my brain takes in the media form.
Naruto is based on American like sasuke is based on some Japanese guy. I mean it is not big deal for you but it hurts when other people claim people of your race everything Is not about black or white. It really is not. English is not my first language so I am not able to properly tell you how much it hurt💔 like your culture belong to white and black people.
Sadly that's a thing i cannot relate to. I am not a tribalistic/culterstic person so i don't hold much weight to that nor really understand it. Honestly i just watch anime and like it nothing more. There is no weird intension with it.
If anything i prefer to stay away from cultural beliefs and stuff because they make 0 sense to me.
Well saying that Japanese draw Asian character as white mean that they think that white people are superior
Honestly with how much i don't deal with tribalism or culture i am pretty not racist. Because i don't have what makes people racist in the first place which is some weird hateful pride from ones own culture and tribalism.
So your talking to a brick wall here, if your talking about me caring that white men are better or any other sense of superior like that.
You did maked claim that most anime character look white.
Many is okay since many are white most character in AOT or berserk or vinland saga but most is plain wrong
But they look Asian to me. Most of them is it bad to say that you are protecting since you are white?
Protecting? Do you mean projecting? Well possibly after all we see what relates back to us and our life.
Our brains work by making associations not just straight data like a computer. Therefore things have to associate to things we can visualise and stuff which easiest for the brain to do would be my own life.
But honestly I don't know. All i know is yes these characters are Japanese unless something else makes it clear there not, which sadly both have white ton of skin don't really tell me alone which is which. Other stuff you've thought about more may point it out like you said, but i don't really focus on that when i am watching it.
Tbh to me they could be any race i just like the character for the character. So it don't really matter to me if they appear different like that to me and of course i still know that most are probably gonna be Japanese but that all depends on context clues of were the setting is really.
Yes I mean projecting and there are plenty of tan Asian anime character actually but itadori and vegeta revy are tanned and plenty of white skinned Asian exist so no big deal
I have seen people calling revy white so? It really don't anyway most anime character look Asian to me
Well I can tell it most of the time goku look Asian to me don't stop white people from claiming him or brock look Asian don't stop black people from claiming him
He was based on a Chinese so?
This chi is also Chinese concept
Chi Chi is 100% Chinese and they have similar features so?
I hope from now on you won't make claim that most anime character look white
Okay they look Asian to me.
I literally have told you even why they look Asian but shrug.
Read them and tell me if you still think so
Why white people think that anime character look white part 4 ↗
This should change you're mind
As for eren point ever thought about it maybe maybe artist draw their character more Asian so they can appeal to Japanese? Death note artist had said that making character look non Japanese is hard and black lagoon mangaka had made revy Chinese America because in her own world Japan would relate to appearance of a mongoloid women more than a Caucasian one
Lol you cannot change my mind, It's how they look to me.
And no Eren is German there is no point drawing him to look Asian not that he looks so anyway, just if you told me he was i would believe you if i didn't already know it was german.
These anime characters all pretty much look the same to me.
There should be no artificial quotas on the artistic content. And artist should stick to things they know 1st hand or are deeply familiar with. Like a guy shouldn't try to depict something he has only learned about 3rd hand from other artists who gave a BS perspective. Just like I wouldn't try to write a story about the mafia given that I'm not Italian, never grew up in a mafia run area & I never knew any mafia members. Although if I went out of my way to interview people who did I might get to the point where I could. If you want more black/brown anime... then what you really need is for there to be more black/brown ARTISTS starting anime studios.
And what I said doesn't rule out an artist creating a black character that just has all mainstream cultural stuff -- but that has to be the artist's choice not an outside force making them do it. I guess the problem is that in the live action movie business talented actors of all skin colors can earn many different roles. Like Denzel Washington can get roles that an artist may not have written with the idea of a black guy playing it but it didn't matter because there are black people who could fit that part irl. If you have artificial quotas it's more likely you get token characters that look black and "act" different but it's really just woke pandering/stereotyping.
Problem in the sense that in anime you don't have an actor's skin color affecting what the character looks like at all so you can't just naturally have a character 'become' the race of the person who won an acting job. It's more about just the original idea in the artist head so it's more limited, I guess.
This is what being woke has done to media companies… If Anime follows the trend, they will earn the same losses...

no. i think for a story, the color of the skin of the protargonists should not matter. unless it is specifically a story about cultural differences but then an arbitrary standardized number or quota won't be helpful.
a quantitative change in frequency of "characters in fiction" won't fix society. it may even make it worse, as we see with the LGBTQ+ community.
the forced overexposure of that community in media has actually reduced their acceptance in society and made peoples views about them worse than they were before. and i think that same mechanism works the same for all sorts of social groups.
I wouldn't mind if there any or not, considering anime is from Japan and there barely any blacks or non Japanese there, it would be kinda unrealistic to demand something that isn't fairly common at. It not like The US where it's a melting pot of different people. That makes both countries completely different one is a very old traditional country which consist with only their own citizens, while the other is a multicultural country that doesn't have any specific people considering the original Americans aka the natives were slaughter and their land were destroyed by the European invaders.
No, I do not think that there should be more black/brown anime characters. I'm so sick of "diversity and inclusion" being forcefully shoved into everything nowadays just for the sake of a few insecure losers on Twitter. Leave anime and manga alone; it's fine as it is.

“Should?”
No, I do not think there “should” be.
I’ve watched plenty of anime without black/brown characters as the main characters or even as characters period.
I don’t feel left out because there aren’t any black/brown characters, being a brown man myself.
I’ll watch and have watched regardless.
I understand some people want to feel included and think adding more diversity will increase inclusivity and positivity.
Well, Japan is a monoculture with like 99% native Japanese population, so retconning their media to suit more westernised sensibilities seems kinda retarded. But I won't stop them if characters are done well and their presence makes sense in context of the narrative. Like, it would be strange if an anime is set in Tokyo but half the characters are black. But an anime set in, say, Detroit, Michigan, would obviously reflect the demographics of that city with more black characters.
I agree that Making anime for west is weird but almost 3 % immigrant in Japan are not Japanese and 1 out of 30 kids born in Japan are mixed so plenty of hafas
I mean lu is Chinese in sakamoto days you can make her black immigrant or daughter of black immigrant in Japan yes they exist or killua father was Russian and mother was Japanese could had made his father black or make show based on Africa
Plenty of Chinese/ European and of course hafa in anime
I don't care.
If the Mangaka/Animation Studio thinks the skin colour is important they can create a character just like that.
But i can't remember an anime/manga where the skin colour was of such importance it actually mattered and added to the story plot.
The reason why Japanese culture is not infused with black people is that there are no black people in Japan and the main reason why there are no black people in Japan is that Japan didn't have slaves. So leave Japan and animes alone, they owe nothing to black people.
In one word, yes.
I would love to see a main character who is Black and isn't portrayed as the usual Japanese stereotypes, plus gets more than 12-24 episodes.
It's unlikely. But all the same, I would love it if they did.
BLM is a illogical American creepy liberal divisive communist thing. Leave the Japanese anceint culture alone. They never had black slaves. Get off your pedistol and stop looking for creepy ways to slowly intrude on other races privacy..👎🏻 Their children needs to feel their race matters also.. Have their heroes and cartoons.
Anyway I am Asian I was just saying it because some black people wanted more representation like there are plenty of Chinese and European characters in anime.
OK Asians then.. Regaurdless, then the question could be should their blm also also be in Asian anime's? The problematic issue with all blm socialism is its wiping out cultures thats why America is being invaded at our borders like germany. Has overthrown holliwood, and media, ID say no, leave what is, alone. All cultures matter..
Is this being asked from a point of virtue signaling for representation or does it actually have to do with the story setting and characters driving a plot?
Well I am Asian I was just saying it because some black people were telling me that they want more black or brown character. I was thinking what other's think
Well, that was why I asked. Are some of these black people claiming this because they just want representation stemmed from racial prejudice or perceived racism or is it because they are trying to tell a good story with relatable characters and good plot and character depth and progression?
There is a difference here, namely in terms of quality.
According to them they just want representation
That does not answer my question.
I haven't watch that for so long so I don't know who they have on them all I know is that for some reason I always thought that they were all sexy that girl that you have on your post she's sexy
If it's pertinent to the story, otherwise i honestly don't care.
Whenever people keep pushing for this kind of thing... it's irritating, not gonna lie.
I don't care as long as they make new original ones instead of trying to replace White ones like Spiderman and Ariel.
Making new ones is fine, replacing traditionally White ones is racist.
Most anime characters are Asian. So if anything they would replace Japanese one
Unlike west they're still making original work in Japan
Yeah, America is too focused on being racist against Whites and trying to replace them as much as they can.
Plus most writers here either don't have good ideas, or no new ideas so they just keep remaking old stuff that has already been done. That is why there are many reboots here.
Japanese people drawing Japanese people. I'm so shocked. Why the hell should there be other people? If you wanna have a different character/story write it yourself.
And plenty of hafa in anime asoka from Neon Genesis Evangelion is half German.
Anyway I am Asian I was just saying it because some black people wanted more representation like there are plenty of Chinese and European characters in anime.
Nope I believe an artist should have true, unlimited, creative freedom and expression and no one has a right to their creation. Of you want animation a certain way then you write and draw it out.
Sure but it should not be forcing into anime unnecessary character choice should be based on what story required and voice actor should be black as well
Why voice actor need to be black? In anime women voicing men is common and most white or Chinese characters are voiced by Japanese too. One popular voice actress is half Egyptian should she not get to do any Japanese characters since she is not pure Japanese her career would be destroyed
I mean if black voice actor in Japan didn't get to do Asian characters than their career would seriously be destroyed
Most non Japanese va in industry are hafa so at most you would get half white va for white character thing is most white guys here marry Japanese or even other Asian women. Rarely do they marry white women so pure white one are rare
Nope. On the othewr hand, western animation should include more sexy female babes like anime does! there's a truye lakc of diversity in that department and if diversity is not important enough to incldue that then Id on't need more blakc sin media. There is enough blacks in other forms of entertainemnt and the hypocricy of those who claims to want equality but just want to force in blacks are really pissing me off
Not really black people should make their own.
Aaron McGruder.
Stop looking for another group to do for you.
It's japs culture. So they gonna have japs people. And maybe just maybe have a white guy Chinese, or indian or black
Jap is slur
Claiming that all anime character are Japanese is not wrong in sakamoto days
main female lead is Chinese and Umehito Nekozawa is Russian from aouran highschool host club and there is kingdom and DBZ which is based on Chinese culture and AOT and vinland saga is based on European culture. And plenty of hafa in anime asoka from Neon Genesis Evangelion is half German
Well I am Asian I was just saying it because some black people were telling me that they want more black or brown character. I was thinking what other's think
It's a aberration stop it. Do the people speak Japanese, do they eat Japanese food. Was it created by predominantly Japanese people.
Chi chi is clearly Chinese in DBZ tien is clearly Asian as well.
It's a Asian culture.
Just because they don't say the race don't mean anything.
If it's based on European or Russian or German like attack on titans then clearly we aren't talking about them.
They go out of their way to say Japanese for misaka.
At the end of the day it's a Asian art form.
Same way hip-hop is black art form.
And you didn't put yourchi in your black female picture
First yourchi is Indian based second I can't post all dark skinned character there are many maybe should had posted casca too they're most popular again casca is indian based
I don't know any indian woman with a Afro.
Black were saying that they can make show on African culture or introduce a black immigrant or son/daughter of black immigration in series that take place in Japan like lu is Chinese in sakamoto day's they could have introduced a black immigrant girl instead of a Chinese one. killua father is Russian while mother is Japanese they could have made his father black while keeping his mother Japanese. Plenty of hafa in anime.
yourchi don't have afro her hair are straight/wavy black people in bleach look different casca kid with gut look white plenty of half Indian kinda look white plus casca have straight hair and only people in berserk universe with dark skin have middle Eastern or Indian culture.
Can THEY make a show on African culture? Why don't you?
White people made their own called comics Superman Batman spiderman.
Tousen (bleach)
Joco (shamen king)
Nessa ( Pokemon)
Killer bee and 80% lighting village
Simon (durara)
Both black dudes from (blood+)
Lilia barrel (bleach)
Rock lock MHA
Yoruichi bleach
Balrog ( street fighter)
It's not no one else job to make something for you.
Why don't you support black creators
Yoruichi is actually Indian she have straight hair not afro black character in black clearly look different
How can I support black creator while I live in Asia? I literally have given you example of a Chinese immigrant being main female lead in a popular manga could had made her black immigrant or have a daughter/son of black immigrant in Japan as mc of anime yes black immigrant exist or just make her/him half black and half Japanese killua father is Russian could had made his father black while keeping mother Japanese. This is how they can even make black character in anime happening even in Japan
Nessa is also Indian based
Stay beautiful- bleach
Watch that and tell me yourchi black
If you want to think that she is black based on one song or whatever even though she look different from actual black character than what can I say okay.
Also why are we fighting over her? Let's ignore I was just telling you how they can have black character. Like make them half black half Japanese or introduce immigrant or immigrant kid
Chi cho is blasian. If you want a black Asian character there you go
Why do you think I want it LOL I was just asking it because some black people were saying that there should be more black character in anime and I just wanted opinion
Oh, those are liberal black people. They don't know no better.
Also don't ever use ja*p say Japanese
Are u Japanese
Not just for the sake of having them no.
But if they actually have to do with plot, story telling and progression and or character development then yeah. Just like any character.
i'd like to see more, omoi was cool asf - but most people in japan aren't black so it's more just an honest representation. there r anime like afro samurai tho, which was amazing.
No. Japanese don't to other races and cultures well. Just like American movies and animations don't do other countries and cultures well.
There should be more Indian and Chinese actors and singers in mainstream Hollywood.
Sure, more representation is a good thing. I'd recommend Black Lagoon, it has a fairly well diverse cast.
For what reason? Anime is Japanese and most people who live in Japan are Japanese.
Whenever i watch anime or some movie or anything i don't really give a shit if all the characters are black or white or anything. They can have all characters green that won't change anything.
Only if it comes naturally. I don't like the idea of them being there just because people would be mad if they weren't (also I love hunter hunter! ❤)
If anime originated in Africa you could have all the darker anime characters you want.
It didn't.
There are actually some dark skinned Japanese and immigrants from South East Asia are not that uncommon and plenty of half South East Asian and half Japanese. Yes some South East Asian have light skin of course but most have brown
I don't watch anime so I couldn't care less. But it wouldn't hurt, I suppose.
the Japs don't give a fuck about your woke bullshit
Why do you think that I am woke? Also Japanese is correct term
"Why do you think that I am woke?"
"Also Japanese is correct term"
@disgustingweebtrash I am literally furthest thing from woke
How would you feel if I called you Mayo? As a Asian should I be happy when white person use slur? Nope don't make me woke
Depends on the cartoon, I don’t see why not, I just don’t like when they replace a character that was always white to brown, kind of loses the character’s history and my interest in the movie when change things like that
Most anime character are Asian so if anything Asian character would get replaced
With another Asian? because if they brown but were once Asian that wouldn’t make any sense especially if it’s anime
Absolutely! Thank you for bringing that up! Native Americans, Native Hawaiians, Native Alaskans, Native Australians, Polynesians, Middle-Easterns, and also people of all skin and hair color! #HecksYeah
Not really unless you are talking about all animation in general, I say no to Anime because it's made in Japan and the characters tend to be Japanese.
I mean lu is Chinese in sakamoto days you can make her black immigrant or daughter of black immigrant in Japan yes they exist or killua father was Russian and mother was Japanese could had made his father black or make show based on
Plenty of Chinese and European and half European/Chinese in anime
True but it's not a focus point to those characters where as in making a character a specific race, just to have more of that specific race adds absolutely nothing
I mean plenty of show are based on Chinese and European culture can do same with African actually I have seen more manga based on middle Eastern culture than African one
No I don't think so. Asia is not just a playground for black people we have our own culture and way of doing things. We don't have an obligation to do something for you guys for no reason.
No, it's just not something that will make my life complete.
I thought anime characters weren't any specific race. I thought they were like LEGO people.
How about we just let people create whatever caracters they want
Agree? I was asking because some black people were talking about it wanted to know what others think
I think that it would be more inclusive, although most anime is of Asian characters, so the same thing could be said as Caucasian too.
Ultimately or logically there should be the same percentage as population. But a free market says demand is key.
No. If the only reason for them being in a series is because they're black. No.
Its called tokenism
Yes, I think it’d make for some interesting content. But they need to actually make the anime about the black main character. Not like yasuke where they just made the anime about the little girl.
I don't think I've come across an issue I care about less than this one.
There should be exactly the anime characters which writers write.
No. Also, they're tanned not black. There's been only one legit black guy in the history of Japan
@doopayo ask the people at Barbados 🇧🇧. Bring dark skinned doesn't necessarily mean you're from black descent
@doopayo it is possible kuzan from one piece western people used to think that he is black but he was based on a Japanese. Most character I have posted except one are Asian.
Japanese people can be quite difference I have seen some really dark one and really hair color and hair type is just a statistics since many Japanese like dying or stylizing their hair
General rule is if a character have Japanese than he/she is Japanese could be half but most of the time they would tell you about him/her being half if not irrespective of how yoy can see him/her they're Japanese.
Have a Japanese name
Lol Japanese also have a tendency to make character with foreign name half Japanese maybe so audience can relate more and they can speak fluent Japanese. Killua have a European name for example but father is Russian mother is Japanese. So chances of character with foreign name being hafa is also quite high
@JessJayNeak the only people I’ve met from Barbados are black. And that not what I said, I said how can you be dark skin and have curly hair and say they aren’t black. They’re obviously black so it makes no sense. Also do you even watch the anime’s? Most of these black characters are in anime’s that aren’t slice of life meaning Japan doesn’t exist, so there are no Japanese people.
@doopayo yes, I do watch anime. Also, it's clear that you don't know geography since Barbados folks are legit Latinos. Same with Cubans, some have a darker skin than others. It's clear that you're trying to waste my time with your pointless PC
Afro latinas are a thing so you’re literally making no sense. My families from Cuba and I’m black and Latino. A google search could’ve taught you that The population of Barbados is predominantly black (92.4%) or mixed (3.1%). [1] 2.7% of the population is white and 1.3% South Asian. The remaining 0.4% of the population includes East Asians (0.1%) and Middle Easterners (0.1%).
You sound slow 😂 did you not know The majority of middle eastern are Latinos of African descent? Hispanic is an ethnic group not a race, this isn’t rocket science. Don’t go and cry PC just cause you don’t know anything about genealogy
@doopayo when did I say that Hispanics were a race?
@doopayo and 2+2 = 4. And nothing else
@doopayo did I literally say "Barbados is a Hispanic country?"
@doopayo and what does Rihanna have to do with anime?
@doopayo you didn't answer my question. What does Rihanna have to do with anime?
@doopayo then why involve her?
@doopayo who are you going pull up next? Foxy Brown? Nicki Minaj? Cardi B?
@doopayo also when did I say "people of Barbados are tanned?" When? Where? Give me the words "Detail by detail"
@doopayo if someone have Japanese or Asian name than they are Asian
Foreigner have foreign name
@doopayo so 8 said they were Latinos not tanned
*I (not 8, damn it)
@doopayo it's true that it has nothing to do with anime. Still, that doesn't change the fact that there was only one legit black guy that set foot on Japan and became a shogun.
@doopayo there is an anime about it tho
@doopayo so yes it has to do with that as well
Yet not every single anime is about non fiction, many of the most popular anime’s are literally in the realm of fiction. I’m failing to understand why anime can tell stories about elf’s and dragons but you draw the line at black people because it’s not accurate enough apparently to portray them in anime?
@doopayo can or can't?
@doopayo I draw the line because often representation = wokeness. And many franchises fell for this. Ghostbusters, Ocean' 11, Charlie's Angels and so on
@doopayo I have no problem with representing others. I do have a problem when it's forced
Who is forcing anime to have more representation. How do you equate a few black people saying hey it would be kinda cool to have some more characters that looked like us equals advocating for forced representation?
Western media is very different from media in countries like japan since Japan is homogenous
@doopayo it's called influence
No. Animae is Japanese and has nothing to do with Black people
I mean lu is Chinese in sakamoto days you can make her black immigrant or daughter of black immigrant in Japan yes they exist or killua father was Russian and mother was Japanese could had made his father black or make show based on Africa
Only when they make sense.
In Japan of midieval Europe? Nah
no. anyone who asks this is a racist. you're looking for race
They all really have enough black/brown Anime Characters
Only if it's relative to the story. If it's shoehorned in for diversity sake, than no.
I don't see why not but I don't think the Japanese are as obsessed with race as we are so I'm not holding my breath for a change like this.
Fine with me if the author is looking to appeal to a wider audience
Hell yeah with afro hair
need more those in japan firsts
It should be up to the Japanese anime community.
It's the creator's choice
It's up to the creator.
Don’t worry, I’ve got at least one
I’m gonna add another
