No... kinda. I want more of a particular race, only if that is what the market demands. NOT because of percentages. If the company wants a bigger share of the black market, then accommodate. the same for Latino, White, etc.
Trying to socially-engineer ANY product, is a bad idea, morally and economically. Should the Blues musicians I like, be forced to make 'Hip-Hop' songs because they don't sell enough to teenagers? Should my barber be forced to take less crew-cut requests, until she does more 'corn-rows' - so it evens out the ratio of typical Whites to Black customers? Fuck that, and fuck you for pretending that doing so is okay, as it is only misguided and RACIST!
Yes, singling-out one group in lieu of another, based solely on race, is racist... By definition!
Now, if it happened that the Animator's supervisors/bosses/administrators specifically directed the staff to exclude black skin, black facial features, and/or black voice-actors, while ignoring the market research and demographics... with the specific intention of somehow 'oppressing' the entire ethnicity... then yeah, THAT would be racist.
But the entire Social-Justice 'movement, seems like it's one big slap-in-the-face to the real heroes of the Civil Rights tribulations of the 1960's. I mean, really... c'mon people... "Anime"?
Sincerely, everyone; If you are a fan of that genre, and think you would enjoy seeing characters what look like you and your family/friends, then go ahead and write an email. Or get together with your friends, family, or other fans online, and mail some polite requests. These networks are trying to earn a profit, and would LOVE to do things that will make that more likely! But... a bunch of White liberals making demands on behalf of some other group, who probably has more important issues they'd like addressed - is just sad, self-righteous, and appalling (in my humble opinion). And, it is just my HUMBLE opinion; because I am NOT an ethnic minority, I can't know how they feel, BUT IT ALSO MEANS I HAVE NO RIGHT SAYING what I think that group wants or needs. THAT is truly some racist shit... Thinking you are the front-line of racism. Fuck you! Do the world a favor: Stay in college, swallow what your instructors give you to swallow, and leave us working-adults alone... Things will be fine without you.
Oh, yeah... stop talking so loud at Starbucks... no one finds you interesting.

When it's relevant, sure. The vast majority of anime shows and movies originate from Japan, and also take place in Japan, or fictional worlds that are based on either Japan or (medieval) Europe. If you've ever been to Japan, you may have noticed that there's basically nobody with skin darker than an average tan over there, so it stands to reason that there would be virtually no black people in anime when it isn't relevant to the story in some way, usually as a travelling foreigner or side character with a background that helps the story along.
I quite enjoy good racial representation in anime (cuz sometimes there's stereotypical depictions as well and that looks awkward as hell) but they shouldn't force it for the sake of diversity. That never works in my opinion. If there's more we'll written and depicted black characters in anime that would be great! But I don't think that it's a "should" as if they have to fit a quota or something.
Yes, I like seeing them. A lot of dark skinned Asians and blasians exist in Asia so it’d be cool to see stories about them in anime.
One of my favorite black anime characters will forever be michiko milandro though

No more than there should be black actors playing characters that were not written black.
Diversity is one thing, but forcing diversity over decent storytelling and authenticity is a sure way to flop whatever you're doing.
Just like a movie about an African tribe should be an all black cast, a show about polish folklore should be an all white cast because there simply was no "Diversity" in Poland thousands of years ago, and yes I'm talking about the witcher, this woke netflix monstrosityIt's a difficult thing really because Asians for some reason in anime don't draw themselves as Asians but as white.
Then for some odd reason some character like an old grandpa character will look stereotypically Japanese.
So races in anime and manga are kinda have weird rule sets and they all do it differently for some reason.
Personally i don't care what there portrayed like longs if them characters are good. So i wouldn't support it nor be ageist it. Until i see the final result on a base by base character.
Which i suppose is also the least racist thing to do since i am not judging on race. There should be no artificial quotas on the artistic content. And artist should stick to things they know 1st hand or are deeply familiar with. Like a guy shouldn't try to depict something he has only learned about 3rd hand from other artists who gave a BS perspective. Just like I wouldn't try to write a story about the mafia given that I'm not Italian, never grew up in a mafia run area & I never knew any mafia members. Although if I went out of my way to interview people who did I might get to the point where I could. If you want more black/brown anime... then what you really need is for there to be more black/brown ARTISTS starting anime studios.
This is what being woke has done to media companies… If Anime follows the trend, they will earn the same losses...
no. i think for a story, the color of the skin of the protargonists should not matter. unless it is specifically a story about cultural differences but then an arbitrary standardized number or quota won't be helpful.
a quantitative change in frequency of "characters in fiction" won't fix society. it may even make it worse, as we see with the LGBTQ+ community.
the forced overexposure of that community in media has actually reduced their acceptance in society and made peoples views about them worse than they were before. and i think that same mechanism works the same for all sorts of social groups.I wouldn't mind if there any or not, considering anime is from Japan and there barely any blacks or non Japanese there, it would be kinda unrealistic to demand something that isn't fairly common at. It not like The US where it's a melting pot of different people. That makes both countries completely different one is a very old traditional country which consist with only their own citizens, while the other is a multicultural country that doesn't have any specific people considering the original Americans aka the natives were slaughter and their land were destroyed by the European invaders.
No, I do not think that there should be more black/brown anime characters. I'm so sick of "diversity and inclusion" being forcefully shoved into everything nowadays just for the sake of a few insecure losers on Twitter. Leave anime and manga alone; it's fine as it is.
“Should?”
No, I do not think there “should” be.
I’ve watched plenty of anime without black/brown characters as the main characters or even as characters period.
I don’t feel left out because there aren’t any black/brown characters, being a brown man myself.
I’ll watch and have watched regardless.
I understand some people want to feel included and think adding more diversity will increase inclusivity and positivity.Well, Japan is a monoculture with like 99% native Japanese population, so retconning their media to suit more westernised sensibilities seems kinda retarded. But I won't stop them if characters are done well and their presence makes sense in context of the narrative. Like, it would be strange if an anime is set in Tokyo but half the characters are black. But an anime set in, say, Detroit, Michigan, would obviously reflect the demographics of that city with more black characters.
I don't care.
If the Mangaka/Animation Studio thinks the skin colour is important they can create a character just like that.
But i can't remember an anime/manga where the skin colour was of such importance it actually mattered and added to the story plot. The reason why Japanese culture is not infused with black people is that there are no black people in Japan and the main reason why there are no black people in Japan is that Japan didn't have slaves. So leave Japan and animes alone, they owe nothing to black people.
In one word, yes.
I would love to see a main character who is Black and isn't portrayed as the usual Japanese stereotypes, plus gets more than 12-24 episodes.
It's unlikely. But all the same, I would love it if they did.BLM is a illogical American creepy liberal divisive communist thing. Leave the Japanese anceint culture alone. They never had black slaves. Get off your pedistol and stop looking for creepy ways to slowly intrude on other races privacy..👎🏻 Their children needs to feel their race matters also.. Have their heroes and cartoons.
Is this being asked from a point of virtue signaling for representation or does it actually have to do with the story setting and characters driving a plot?
I haven't watch that for so long so I don't know who they have on them all I know is that for some reason I always thought that they were all sexy that girl that you have on your post she's sexy
If it's pertinent to the story, otherwise i honestly don't care.
Whenever people keep pushing for this kind of thing... it's irritating, not gonna lie.I don't care as long as they make new original ones instead of trying to replace White ones like Spiderman and Ariel.
Making new ones is fine, replacing traditionally White ones is racist.Japanese people drawing Japanese people. I'm so shocked. Why the hell should there be other people? If you wanna have a different character/story write it yourself.
Nope I believe an artist should have true, unlimited, creative freedom and expression and no one has a right to their creation. Of you want animation a certain way then you write and draw it out.
Nope. On the othewr hand, western animation should include more sexy female babes like anime does! there's a truye lakc of diversity in that department and if diversity is not important enough to incldue that then Id on't need more blakc sin media. There is enough blacks in other forms of entertainemnt and the hypocricy of those who claims to want equality but just want to force in blacks are really pissing me off
