Did Venom have an inter-dimensional hive mind in the comics?

In the post credit scene of Venom 2, Venom explains he is part of a hive mind across universes in other dimensions. This explains why he is able to recognize Peter Parker on the TV.

But, was this feature of Venom in the comics too, or just for the movie?

They are kinda setting up Knull ( creator of all symbiote's like venom) and the doctor strange reality breaking.
