So basically would a noob be able to play it that way? It sounds super fun and more doable to me compared to trolls, mages, etc.
Why don't we have a game/gaming topic? So lame smh.
It's very much so possible. The issue isn't with whether it's possible, it's whether the DM (I'm guessing your boyfriend?) has enough experience or know-how to make a campaign like that and makenit being fun, compelling, and fulfilling.
Now I'm not familiar with this anime/series you're referring to, but I'd imagine it's just like a mystery show. If not, feel free to clarify and I'll update my response.
Also, of you don't want makes and trolls and stuff, again, this too can be done, however, it takes heavy revision and alteration of the rules and foundation of the game. People DO do this. Just the other day I saw a D&D campaign set in the world of Fallout (like with guns and stuff), which was a heavily revised version of D&D. But this takes a lot of work and can easily be done in an unbalanced, and possibly unfun, way.
As for whether a noob can play it in the way you want, absolutely. There's nothing stopping you. It's not like unreasonable.
And lastly, regarding the sexual roleplayers, to my knowledge they're a minority. Most people don't get sexual during campaigns, and a lot of groups have a no-in-game-flirting rule.
If you really want to do some sort of mystery, tell your boyfriend and/or whoever will DM to maybe look into published campaigns that involve mysteries. Maybe if that's what interests you, they might be willing to give it a try. There are many free ones online. But do keep in mind that if the DM isn't familiar or experienced with mysteries, it might not be as fun as it could be otherwise.
My suggestion would be to first play whatever your group normally would, see how it is. If you still don't like it, reserve forming a definitive opinion and then try to play that mystery you wanted. And if you still don't enjoy it then, form your opinion, then. But many people, once they realize the limitless options they have in any given D&D scenario, they enjoy the game.
Either way, best of luck!
Hi! Thank you for the detailed response! Danganronpa is a video game from 2010. A setting where 16 students get trapped in a large building where they need to kill and get away with it or suffer in some other way.
It's got murder, trials and executions
Which free one do you recommend to try it out?
Sounds like fun. That's certainly possible in D&D (you could argue anything within reason is).
And unfortunately I don't actually have a recommendation. I haven't DM'd yet, and I'm sure you'd prefer someone with that wisdom to determine what campaign idea is or isn't a good one. I've also never played in one with a large focus on mystery, or one that seems to be like that game you've mentioned.
(There's alsp literally thousands if not millions or possibly even billions to choose from, so I wouldn't even know where to start, lol)
I don't really see the format translating well at all. Danganronpa doesn't really work unless characters are regularly separated, so the DM would have to essentially sit in another room while everyone takes one turn at a time to do their daily actions. Frankly, the DnD format only works well so long as everyone is mostly cooperating and is together, unless you're literally doing an arena/deathmatch scenario.
I don't even know how you could translate Danganronpa into a tabletop game. Maybe some kind of hybrid between Diplomacy and Werewolf/Mafia.

Why would one want to do it without sexual stuff? hell danganronpa it's self is super sexual so... I don't know if you played the game there tbh.
Unless you just ignore love hotel thing and all the sexual comments made and entire characters lmao.
But anyway to answer said question of course. Pokemon and pretty much anything can be made into a DnD that's kinda the point of Role play games. They can be fitted into any setting.
DnD 5e is pretty open ended. The more expressive the players & dm are the better in my opinion.
You'll be fine.
Thank you I'll make sure to tell him I want to try with that one
... Huh? Is this some kinda sex dungeon game? If so I don't know if I can't say anything cuz I don't do anything like that
The exposure I've had to dnd is weirdos that flirt with other people's characters or wanna fuck the NPCs the DM rping
My boyfriend said he hates those people and if they try to romance/fuck characters he'll say "yeah they like you know" or "night passed and they left'
Sure, why not
I'm just worried I'd be bad if I didn't have the know how ^^;
