First of all! You can't compare two legends that has different eras in music, different genres. Elvis's rock'n roll took the world by a storm , imapct on other bands and artists, movies, simple a god at his time. Michael Jackson's dancing moves by it self is larger than whole Elvis's legacy, the singing reached on another level of pop, he concerts are massive compares To Elvis. Thriller, History, free willy (will you be there), earth somg, Dirty Diana, beat it, billy jean and the list is endless. No one dances now days without having an MJ touch to it even in tango, salsa, cha cha cha, waltz, plympics... etc. Compare MJ with Madonna, not with Elvis because every single artist has a different impact, there is no doubt Elvis is the king of rock'n roll, just as Michael Jackson is the king of pop.
I would argue this goes for other genres too. Probably the best indie artists for talent in subgenre are Chvrches and Of Monsters and Men. But as far as recognition, it's now a game of who's the most obnoxious when not performing a song. Airborne Toxic Event may not have the best tunes, but the name is catchy. The Mowgli's, likewise. On the country end, you'll always have classics like Hank Williams. But then you've got the subgenres of country. For more conservative country fans, Alan Jackson is a genuine legend. For the left-leaning and wild types, Garth Brooks is without a doubt the Michael Jackson of country. But less creepy. Even bands like KISS took stage antic inspiration from Garth Brooks! Winner for too modest for their own good would probably be Sons of the Desert. With underhanded backstage politics, the Dixie Chicks destroyed them. Country has been downhill ever since. To the point that I can no longer stand it.
@ObscuredBeyond "Garth Brooks is without a doubt the Michael Jackson of country. But less creepy." 👌👌👌👌🤣
In my opinion, they were equally famous and infamous or there era. Both talented singers but completely different times. They both influenced the industry to changes to make music what it is today. My parents lived Elvis but hated the music I loved in the late 70s. When the 80s rolled in, the fight was on to who controlled the radio and TV stations. Thank God for for walkmans!! Fortunately I like all genres of music.
In 2021 MJ is be far more famous. People are saying Elvis or MJ due to their taste. Objectively it is MJ and it ain't even close. Maybe in the 80s it was but in 2021 it ain't.
Because the King of Pop outlived the King of Rock & Roll,
I'd say MJ edged out Elvis a bit more in popularity.

Elvis, for sure.
It's like people are trying to erase Michael Jackson from history (pardon the pun), I suppose for obvious reasons - you never hear his music on the radio any more, and I somehow doubt there's going to be a biopic about him any time soon (even though there's already one about every other artist who's had a tenth of his success).
MJ still gets played here in the UK a lot
Wow that's a tough one. I've read extensively on both. Overall, I would say Michael Jackson was more famous. He was known early on even before his teen years. Although Elvis was world famous in the Western world before the age of 21, which is remarkable also. Both had interesting lives, but also marred with personal issues. But considering the level of fame? I'd say Michael but it is close.
And Michael Jackson was actually married to Elvis Presley's daughter at one time!
Not sure. What’s the metric? Record sales? Concerts?
I think Elvis is still supreme for highest selling solo act. But he had a thirty year head start. Same for the Beatles being the highest selling band ever. But one direction or some bullshit boy band will probably nudge them out soon.
MJ sold more
Don’t know about more famous but I really like Michael Jackson and know absolutely nothing about Elvis Presley... the look of him annoys me though 😆 maybe elvis is more famous amongst older people and Michael more famous amongst younger people?
Both are overrated to me, I guess Michael is more famous.
Probably Michael because he was later on and more familiar to people that are not as old , I don’t remember much about Elvis while he was alive since I was young at the time
I say Michael Jackson just he was mostly known worldwide as I think Eli is was mostly known in the States.
Michael Jackson by far... it isn't even a contest.. I am a huge MJ fan.. since he was a kid.. no one sold out arenas like him, no one danced like him, and no one sang like him.. and no on fainted at an Elvis concert
For mine its certainly Elvis , although both highly skilled and flawed.
Elvis is more FAMOUS
Michael Jackson is more INFAMOUS
Not really
Just the name Presley is known for him, same with Elvis. Michael and Jackson are not as associated with him.
Jackson is
I guess but not as much as Presley
Michael Jackson because lots of Elvis fans have died off.
I think Elvis name is more known, but Michael Jacksons music is more known.
Presley was more famous but, Jackson was much more talented.
Now you answer my questions
I didn't know it was you until after I sent and, at least this one wasn't about pedophilia.
Michael Jackson is internationally famous Elvis not so much
He's not famous in India but Michael Jackson is. And we have biggest population
You say one name, Elvis and EVERYONE knows who you’re talking about. The same can’t be said of Michael
Because Michael is far more common
Gotta give it to Elvis. Michael was awesome but Presley was the King.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/mIXXklRKHJgMichael Jackson sold more records, but Elvis had more fame and was in a lot of movies due to his looks and raw talent.
He was a shithead
Elvis
I think Mike still holds some records for album sales... though I love his music I just can't listen to it anymore knowing he diddle little boys...
He's innocent
So Michael is your answer?
ya I think I gotta go with mikey
The younger trauma always hurts more.
But they all fade over time.
