Wow, fun! I did not grow up with this song as part of that generation, but I did go through a phase for a couple years at least, where I became fascinated with Ella Fitzgerald and some others of her ilk. I have listened to that version of the first song you posted, too many times to count. It still sounds good to me.
And of the male singers of the time, I always thought Frank had the silkiest voice. Absolutely incredible. I know he was a womanizer, had an ego, and all that, but I do typically like his versions of classics more than other artists.
However, to my surprise, I'm choosing the Brenda Lee here. Why? Well I've never even heard of her. And I've never been into that style (whatever it is called), but I think she is doing the most emotional, sort of invested, version of it, in her singing. She pulls me in even more than the others, which I have always liked.
Which one do you like best and why?
