Captain Picard for me (TNG Picard, not this weird new one), hands-down! I don't just think he's the ideal Federation captain but an ideal man. I strive to be more like Captain Picard although I'm more like a bizarre combination of Worf, Riker, and La Forge than anything else.
Picard is a consummate professional, deeply introspective, philosophical, a man of principles but doesn't follow them blindly, he's sensitive to others in private but demands their best in public, he knows when to fight and when to favor diplomacy, he listens to his crew, and he practices what he preaches. I think he epitomizes a near-perfect leader; he brings out the best in his crew.
Mostly I think he's the wisest and most disciplined of all the famous Star Trek captains, and I would love to be so wise. The only major fault I see in him is his hesitance to get too close to people in favor of maintaining a professional distance, but I don't necessarily even see that as a flaw for a great captain: only for a human being who wants to be closer to the person around him.
For me, he's the type of leader someone can be proud to follow. He doesn't need to demand it. He makes every member of his crew feel valuable. He's a deeply empathetic leader, but one able to make those really tough decisions. I think he most embodies the principles and ideals of the Federation (as much as we can expect of a fallible being):

He can also be quite hilarious!

Janeway and Sisko are also very interesting to me but I think of them more like renegade leaders suited for the most desperate times. Their actions don't fully embody the ideals I associate with the Federation. Janeway also horrified me a bit with what she did to Tuvix; I tend to have to pretend that episode doesn't exist.
I didn't watch the new one so i don't know what Archer is like but for me it has to be Picard.
I like the others, they have their moments, even Kirk but Picard isn't just everything a Star Trek captain should be, he is the embodiment of what Star Fleet aspires to be.
What about the other roles though?
This is my dream team
Captain : Picard
First Officer : Data
Helmsman : Sulu
Operations : Chekov
Tactical : Worf
Chief Engineer : O'Brian
Science : Seven
Medical : The Doctor
Security : Odo
Counsellor : Ezri Dax
Barman : Quark
Tailor : Garak
1 Kirk.. he was a space cowboy that was not PC!
2 Archer, he started out like Kirk not PC. The censors gutted him.
3 Pike (Anson Mount).. so cute and forceful
4 Sisko, dont mess with this brotha... and he was Hawk on Spencer for Hire
5 Janeway. She would been so much better if she was, "Kathryn Janeway, Great Grand daughter of James Tiberus Kirk!
6 Michelle yuen - Shant'tuz (sp?)
7 Michael Burnham
130ish.. Lame Duck Picard. worst captain ever.. Never take a risk...
i look forward to his angst over knowing after 7 years, he gets hit hard with Delta Radiation and is confined inside a dead shell of a body in the robo wheel chair. Sad the Talosians did not show him the end when he is alive again with Vina on Talos 4.
May 5th is the start i think.
7 years of shows to see!
Captain James T. Kirk
I'm noticing all the older people are voting for him too.

"Next Generation" is probably the best of the Star Trek series, with Deep Space 9 close behind, so I have to go with jean-Luc Picard, who captained a few versions of the Enterprise on the TV show and in movies. Benjamin Sisko was only a captain later in his career, and most of the time he was Captain of a Space Station, not a ship (okay, he was Captain of the Defiant on many (not all) of its missions).
Archer. Picard is too aloof, I don't know Janeway or Sisko, and Kirk would have been my favorite, but he goes on way too many landing parties, leaving his ship without a captain.
Kirk.
I would have gone with Picard, but anyone who relies on Commander Data for information on other people is just asking for trouble!
I have absolutely no idea about the Star Trek universe... other than what's show in The Big Bang Theory
so, Sheldon Cooper
the one that acts gay , at least he is in real life
Picard. A perfect gentleman and a superb diplomat. But when it comes time to roll up the sleeves and toe to toe with the enemy, there's no one more badass. First Contact depicts this vividly.
There's only one: Jim Kirk.
All the other ''Star Treks'' are an artificial and commercial attempt to exploit the success of the original 'heroes'.
:)
Captain data
He was only a captain for a little bit but he's my favorite character in star trek so Im rolling with it
50/50 split between Picard and Janeway. Two most badass captions in my opinion
Plus Picard was assimilated by the borg and Janeway spent her nearly her whole career interacting with them.
I have never seen Star Trek before, only saw a german movie that was inspired by star trek
JaneWay because I love Voyoger but Stewart and Shatner played the most iconic captains.
Captain Kathryn Janeway
I like James Tiberius Kirk. He used to boldly go where no man has gone before.
Cleary the only captain to get his own spinoff. PICARD!
FINALLY a question i can answer.. My favorite captains were a tossup between Kirk Picard and Sisko
tbh i hated that show, i just found it so boring. i was literally falling asleep, everything all seemed so pointless to me
Pfft :p
Captain Jean Luc Picard! i'd follow that man into hell itself lol
I liked DS9 (though I hated the politics of it) so I will say Sisko.
Sisko and Janeway are my favorite. But as a baseball player I have to give it to Sisko.
The one and only real captain
