I love the 40s Picture quality destroyed the late 60s late 70s into the 80s have some fantastic films. New stuff is hit or mostly miss. Acting is replaced by special effects but there are a few fantastic films! I thought Dune photography was well done!

I think the 70s and 80s. There were still some of the old actors like John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart still in movies. Clint Eastwood was making Dirty Harry movies and the movies with the monkey. Star Wars and Star Trek along with Back to the future and Ghostbusters. Not to mention Jaws and The Godfather. So many classics.

Perhaps 70s to 90s for me. The 80s is my sweet spot: Robocop, Terminator, Aliens, The Fly, Excalibur, The Neverending Story, Top Gun, Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Karate Kid, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Goonies, Stand By Me, Rain Man, Blade Runner, Dune, Lethal Weapon, ... I can go on and on.

Day of the Dead (Romero's best in my opinion), Willow, Conan the Barbarian, Scarface, The Thing, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Shining, Predator, Evil Dead 2, Enemy Mine, The Right Stuff, The Abyss, Big Trouble in Little China... the 80s rocked!

I think the 80s and early 90s were also the golden eras of practical effects before VFX started taking over.

The 70s were kinda overlooked too. So many classics like Soylent Green, Smokey and the Bandit, Carrie, Deliverance etc...

Amadeus, Die Hard, The Princess Bride, The Empire Strikes Back (best Star Wars film in my opinion), The Breakfast Club, Near Dark, Midnight Run, Big, This is Spinal Tap, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Flashdance, Raging Bull, ... it's ridiculous!

I love the 70s as well! I might be a little biased towards the 80s since it's my childhood, but I think so many successful franchises were launched from the 80s.

Sci-fi also tends to be one of my favorite genres so I think the 80s nailed sci-fi in particular.

... well, I'm kind of a blur in tastes between sci-fi, historical, and low-fantasy. It's not necessarily the most cerebral and philosophical type of sci-fi that interests me most; there I can find at least as many examples in the 70s. I think it's more the outlandish setting that draws me but still grounded enough that it doesn't start to feel like a high fantasy... like Terminator, Aliens, Predator, Blade Runner, Robocop, The Fly, and so forth... perhaps more "futuristic" than "sci-fi".

Say, have you seen Dredd? That film feels like such an 80s film to me in its simplistic premise and style, even though it was made in 2012:

It's one of my newer favorites.

Tough one but I feel 80s were the creative peak.. everything was still fresh and so many classics across all genres you could probably find the greatest romcom, comedy etc from that decade.

2000s would be second.. so many great franchises

Most movie critics will say the best movies are the classics in the 1040s, 50s and 60s... Gone With the Wind, Wizard of Oz, The Ten Commandments, Sound of Music, 2001 A Space Odyssey, etc.

The acting in the '30s through the 50's just sucked for the most part. But the musicals were usually outstanding. But then, I'm a fan of musicals.

Honestly, anything up until 2010 - so I'd include the latter half of the 20th century + the early 2000s.

90s was pretty rock solid. Tom Hanks had his run. Pixar started mid decade. TV had a golden run with Frasier and Friends.
