What is the best Disney movie remake?

There hasn't been a good one yet, but the Mulan one was absolute garbage.
With Disney you come to expect certain changes from the original, ignoring the original cautionary tale bad endings with something more positive, but with Mulan they ignored the actual genocide happening in China, nullified her efforts by introducing magic, and changed story details to align with Chinese propaganda.
The making of the remake turned into a real life cautionary tale on how to not make a remake. Considering how money hungry Disney is, the disaster of the Mulan remake is quite impressive in how bad it is.
‘cautionary tale’? The story isn’t a cautionary tale and never has been. The story is one of bravery and courage thus it’s continued survival as a contemporary ballad today. And I’d hate to break it to you but the movie was shot in New Zealand province of China.
And what tucker Carlson type show are you people watching talking about ‘magic’? There’s no magic in the story!! What they are talking about is ‘chi’
I’m going to bitch about the passion of the Christ now saying they changed to story by adding magic.
"New Zealand province of China"? I knew China was hungry to claim many ocean territories as their own, but wasn't aware Kiwis were also on the list.
Seriously, the area of Xinjiang where filming took place and which was thanked in the credits is known for the inhumane "re-education" practices used on the Uyghurs who live there. So get your facts checked before you embarrass yourself further.
As for the cautionary tale, I was talking about the general nature of the fairy tales from which Disney often borrows their film stories. Not many happy endings in those tales.
Speaking of unhappy endings, the remake took inspiration from the Tang dynasty for the dresses and uniforms, and during Tang dynasty the original story of Mulan received many adaptations, one of them ending with Mulan forced to marry and end her life in suicide.
Not Mulan in my opinion. Their remakes haven't been great but Mulan was something special and apparently filmed in a old concentration camp in China. So I don't know I like the idea of remakes honestly but they never feel right to me. I liked Jungle Book and I'm excited for the next Lion King being a new story. Lady and the Tramp was alright. Cinderella and Maleficent we're decent for sure. Worst one in my opinion was Beauty and the Beast.
What is it with you people? ‘Apparently’ you just heard it was filmed in an old concentration camp. It was filmed in New Zealand!!!
Oh and By the way, cinderella is in production now and maleficent isn’t a remake. And you’re excited about the lion king sequel? What sequel? Nothing is in the pipeline. Only fan speculation!!!
Don't know where you get info but there's a place listed in the credits that is an abandoned concentration camp site. Also rumored to be in use. Possiblity, nothing I take seriously. And I could swear I've heard Jon Favrau is working on Lion King prequel more-like. I'm not in any "you people group" alright. Cinderella was the first remake to come out in like 2011 or something. I watched it, it was grand. Had the girl from Baby Driver. And I consider. Melificent a remake but a unique one that takes new perspective and definitely what they chose to make in place of a sleeping beauty remake. So I'd put it in the category but I see where you come from
What I mean by “you people” I mean people who read rumors rather than finding out the truth. 90% of the movie was filmed in New Zealand. A small portion was filmed in China. Of that portion it was filmed “near” a concentration camp not in.

And if people feel so strongly about human rights violations then stop supporting China by not purchasing products that are made there.
I mostly buy from other countries or self made products. However I'm completely open to the idea that all the scare of China in general is fake too or at least overexaggerated. And yeah I gather info from scoopers and occasionally the rumor and official announcements get mixed. But I knew about all 3 Spidermen being in No Way Home a year ahead of time so there's reason in some rumors. It's fun to speculate.
Oh hey thanks! Didn't think you liked me very much lmao
They are all pretty bad, they were made for animation so they look soulless in live action form as for mulan... Oh boy that was a controversial one for disney mainly because of them working with the chinese goverment, thats a yikes from me.
So working with the government is bad but buying products is ok?
im not going to explain whats wrong with working with the communist party you can figure that out yourself.
Like I said buying ok with you.
i usually buy products from my own country when i can, anyway this conversation is over, goodbye.
99% of the products you buy are from China. Bet you $1m you can’t find 3 things in your home not from China.
I actually haven't seen either of those, but one I thought was good was beauty and the beast (2017)

The best one was Aladdin! They didn’t do anything stupid like they did with other remakes. And I love the new song Speechless.
Mulan remake is absolutely shit for so many reasons.
The jungle book is the best 😂
Those reasons being?
I mean it actually strays a lot from the original material. Instead of Mulan working hard to be a soldier she has magical powers which kinda just takes away the whole point of the movie. The fact they claimed her character was an "authentic version" when historians agree that Mulan was a member of the proto-Mongolic Xianbei people, who lived in northern China in the 5th century. The movie is essentially an Americanized celebration of chinese nationalism.
Disney filmed in regions where genocide was actively taking place and specifically thanked the institutions who were helping carry it out.
And of course the actress who played Mulan came out in support for the Hong Kong police after they committed acts of Brutality against protesters.
Aaaah. I see magical powers. You mean chi? And when you say that strays from the original source material I suppose you mean the original poem “the ballad of mulan”. An ancient story which is actually made up of different people from different cultures.
And when you say they filmed in a region of China where genocide was “actively” taking place you mean the New Zealand area.
I can see your pointless.
I obviously mean the locations filmed in China. I also obviously mean it strays from the original movie. But sure let's just ignore the controversy around the movie because you liked it.
Well if you’re talking the part where they filmed in a concentration camp then you’d be wrong. They didn’t film in a concentration camp. It was filmed near.

And so what? After all filming near a place is not the same as having a having the same world views. People film all the time in Vegas. Does that mean they want to shoot randomly into a concert?
Creating a movie that is supposed to celebrate Chinese culture in a place that is taking away the rights of Chinese people is pretty fucked up.
Kind of like Cinderella.
Cinderella had issues in other ways. I believe the whole thing was filmed in England so the locations weren't an issue like Mulan was.
Cinderella is originally a Russian fairytale.
Also what’s wrong with you? I didn’t ask for your opinion on the one I like. Did you even read the question?
If Aladdin is any indication of what the other live-action remakes are like, Disney needs to stop making them entirely.
Why do “people” hate it? I’ve never seen it myself but it didn’t look bad. I’d say one of the best- oh you said Disney movies only. I was gonna say Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, thinking back to it it’s actually VERY good.
They were fine as animation. The greedy little shits at Disney are just trying to milk every $ out of their property.
That maybe true for some but the story of mulan wasn’t a carbon copy of the original animation.
No Disney remakes are the best, bunch of downgrades
The Jungle Book. All of the original’s fun with added excitement. :)
Beauty and the beast.
Tarzan
Sorry. There’s no remake of Tarzan.
Opps , sorry I did not see the word remake in the question.
Aladdin
Lion King 2019
Die Hard 2
Not really a Disney movie or a remake.
Pinocchio
Did you even read the question?
yes, and Pinocchio has a remake by Disney
So your favorite movie is one that hasn’t been released yet? Set to be released in September 2022. Duh

@SpaceGalaxy Pinocchio was shit
