One of the cool things I like about Tron is that, instead of trying to blend the CG to the live-action, they blend the live-action to the CG in ways where it never looks so dated and tacky to me... even the 1980s original. Have you seen Dragonslayer? I think that's an underrated fantasy gem:

Also one of the greatest depictions of the Western-style dragon in my opinion. All the latest VFX made with computer graphics can't match it from my perspective (which might be especially coming from me since I work on VFX software):
