Ever since Ghostbusters 2016 (or Gamergate, if you're unfortunate enough to know what that is), movie studios, gaming journalists, and the mainstream media have been using cries of "sexism/racism/homophobia/bigotry" as a way of virtue-shielding any valid criticism of their bad movies, TV shows, or video games levied against them as just "hateful trolls/bigots" all while getting free publicity from the websites and mainstream media they work with, in the process, and giving their shareholders and investors a "worthy" excuse, when said movie, show, or game completely flops.
What is your opinion on companies using monetizing fake controversy and outrage, and do you think Fan-baiting is effective or profitable for them?
