Believe it or not I think I started that because way back when the original seasons of Jersey Shore came out on dvd I was watching them all in order. I was on a different Q&A site at the time. I was thinking about the similarities between the concept of binge drinking a lot in a weekend, and me watching all these seasons of one show in a weekend. I thought it would be clever if I said I was "Binge watching" all of the seasons and I posted a question about it.

After that I noticed that I started seeing it everywhere.

Binge - a period or bout, usually brief, of excessive indulgence

YouTube offered streaming service in 2005 while Netflix didn't offer it until 2007. People were probably binge watching on youtube before Netflix was streaming but I would say Netflix popularized it.

People have been bineging things like alcohol and food I would guess for over 2000 years.
