As a kid life was good & everything was lollipops & candy drops as they say until I watch my first horror movie & that movie was the WIZARD OF OZ.

It all started where everything was fine & after that all hell broke loose.

1. A big scary tornado comes & blows everything away.

2. Dorothy’s house murders the Wicked Witch Of The East.

3. Dorothy Steals The Wicked Witch Of The East’s SHOES.

4. Dorothy’s Gang talks to the MOB Boss himself (OZ) & he puts a hit out on the Wicked Witch Of The West.

5. The Haunted Forest

6. Dorothy Picks Up The Murder Weapon (Bucket Of Water) & Throws it at a wonderful lady & murders her & after that Dorothy STEALS the WWOTW’s broom.

No- but the book is a LOT creepier. Not only does it reveal that the "Tin Man" is a cyborg who replaced more and more of his body until there was nothing left, but has him slaughter a pack of tiger-bears, and eventually (in a later book) track down his former lover only to discover she's married a guy made of his own discarded limbs, which is TOTAL horror movie territory.

Wow. Wish I had've seen this post a lot sooner, but you have an interesting point, yeah. To answer, you have to look at L. Frank Baum, the author of The Wizard of Oz, who was part of the Theosophical Society. Which was about occultism. And there is much of it in the story.

Yeah. I was like many who liked it as a kid too, but have not seen it again since. You bring to light some interesting things about it that could only point to esoteric concepts with a dash of alchemy. When you really think about it, the story is very similar to Walt Disney's old movies. Full of spells, witches, and the like. And of course, he was a Freemason too...

You should read up on all the fucked up shit that happened on set. The silver face paint killed the actor for tin man and a stage hand hung himself which wasn't noticed and made it into the film.

I think it's an atheist parable. The Wizard is God, or the God they believe in, but in the end they find that there is no God, and they can manage perfectly well by themselves.
