I'm looking to find out what their particular job roles or at least the real world equivalent to what she does in the tv series. If I were looking to major in studies such as this what would that particularly look like?

If you want to become a myth debunker or myth buster, the obvious place to start would be snopes. com, which is a site specializing in doing exactly that. You can contact them and share your interest and ask their recommendations on how you can prepare yourself for a research job with their organization. https://www.snopes.com/

There are people who do more specialized debunking, but snopes would provide you with more variety and extremes. Many companies have employees who debunk myths for their public affairs office, but those searches would be limited to the products of that company.

Ask Snopes the types of majors they tend to hire. You can also get a degree in crime scene investigations. That would teach you to do investigative research, which I'm sure would be helpful. You want to have a good background in research. If you wanted to do technical research, then a degree in areas that interest you might be helpful (ie chemistry, engineering), though that could limit you to research in a lab rather than onsite. There aren't a lot of job opportunities for non-technical myth busting. I'm not even aware of another site like Snopes, which is "the definitive Internet reference source for researching urban legends, folklore, myths, rumors, and misinformation."
