What albums do consider to be “no-skip” (or almost no-skip) classics?

Pretty self-explanatory…. what are some albums that you can press play and just let it play through without skipping any songs? Not sure how this will play with the younger folks, it seems like you guys get your music more “a la carte” than us olds have done throughout most of our lives, but maybe I’m wrong and you’re still catching the entire project from a musician or band.

Anyway, anyone who does know some full albums, what are your cover-to-cover classics?

Warren Zevon's Excitable Boy- "Nighttime in the switching yard", hardly an awful song, is by far the worst on the album; and the wild energy of the title track, "Johnny strikes up the band", and "Lawyers, guns, and money" contrasts nicely with the sedate sorrow of "Veracruz" and the rolling weirdness of "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner".

His "Life'll Kill Ya" is also excellent- it's mellower and more reflective (even the wildness of "I was in the house when the house burned down" is talking about the past); very much the work of a man looking back on the wildness of his life and career rather than the eager fanaticism of one starting it (like Excitable Boy was). And the only thing I'd pass on from that album is "I'll slow you down", which he doesn't so much SING as WHINE, and which I'm convinced he put in just to keep people from passively listening without engagement.

He did attain better fame as a songwriter than a singer, but that so many people only know the man for "Werewolves of London" is a crime against music.

Nice! I actually know him most from “The Hockey Song”, although I’m sure I’d heard the “Werewolves Of London” somewhere in life before I knew the heartwarming tale of Buddy the goon😝

A lot stuff I haven’t really explored there, besides Journey. I’m going to look into the ones I don’t know👍 I went to UMass, and one of our favorite pieces of local trivia was that the stadium referenced in Brown Eyed Girl was our football stadium. Definitely heard that song at every middle school and high school dance I ever attended. And it wasn’t from our generation, we were like where’s the Snoop Dogg?😂 Glad we got exposed to it though, in retrospect.

You may or may not be familiar with that particular Journey LP.
Their first three LPs were progressive rock, totally different than the later Steve Perry version of Journey.
Here's the first song on the first side of their first album that I mentioned above.
It's somewhat long at 6:50. It starts slowly, then builds and recedes repeatedly until it concludes with a crescendo of each band member's talent being fully on display. Their best, in my opinion.

Yeah, Brown Eyed Girl is still heard all over, I believe.
Van Morrison seems to be timeless.
I wasn't aware of that bit of trivia about the UMass stadium.

It's an odd LP and may not be to your liking.
It took me a few listens to warm up to it back in the day.

Here comes the infusion of youth that we needed, haha. I’ve at least heard of Halsey and The Chainsmokers😅 I’ll give these folks all a listen. Only new music I really rock with is Griselda (Conway the Machine, Benny the Butcher, and Westside Gunn), and they’re all older guys like me and have a more throwback style. I’ve definitely heard of people being big into The Chainsmokers, so there’s probably something to that👍

I actually haven’t fully jumped into Kendrick’s music, I’m mad late on that😅 I got sucked into the black hole of working full time (like 80-100 hours per week) through most of the 2010s, plus I had just hit my 30s and what starting to get curmudgeonly towards the music of the younger generation that had recently replaced me and mine as the cool demographic. I was looking for a new Dipset, but all I was hearing was the new mumble rap, so I think I just checked out during the heydays of Kendrick, J. Cole, etc. I’m usually into more gangsta shit anyway, so what I did catch was stuff like Meek Mill, etc. Didn’t totally miss the music scene of the 10s but there are some glaring holes for me, and Kendrick is very much one of them. Definitely heard like 5-10 of his songs, but just never fully checked him out. I’ll have to dive in one of these days. (A little Swimming Pools humor for you guys, har har har har🤪)

Loved Core. I don’t think I ever listened to a Metallica album in its entirety, strangely. Definitely liked most of their big hits. I think the popular rock/metal music scene was so saturated with their music that I didn’t really have to seek them out, I could just hear them on MTV or the radio with a lot of frequency. I should really get on that, lmao. Definitely on my list of “Musical Acts To See Before I Or They Die” though, near the top of the remaining list, thinking about it. Unfortunately too late for STP😞

Saw Metallica for the first time a few years back, definitely Italy worth it in my eyes. It was a great show.

STP is still together I believe now with Jeff Gutt as frontal I believe, but I definitely wish I could have seen Weiland with them in his prime.
