Because the speed and capability of computers were accelerating much faster then than they are now. Within a couple of years time there was a very noticeable increase in performance for just about all applications.
Now, from one generation to the next there is no noticeable increase in most cases. You only see an increase in specific applications when the devs really push the limits.
By around 2000 or so, computer technology was advanced enough that for normal usage most things happened instantly, or near instantly. The time of starting something, then going to eat lunch and hoping the task was done when you got back was a thing of the past.
I think it's crazy what some devs do to drive system requirement through the roof. As far as I'm concerned any game or almost any application should run fine on a system from the early 2000s.
better Nvida graphics cards
Those 3 games also had great graphics for its years, 1991-1992-1993.
