Why are PS5s so limited in number compared to the PS4?

Supplies and demand. The PS5 And Xbox and a lot of their games are in high demand but because of the covids the supply has been short. The prices are ridiculous on these new consoles

The number of electronic parts is (still) really limited, so sony can't produce as many as people want.

Covid 19 Pandemic made for a chip shortage. Most people who wanted a PS4 already had one when the pandemic began and there isn't as big a demand for them anymore.

Hopefully, we’ll see an increase in production numbers in the next 2-3 years. I’m hoping I’ll be able to get one in a few months for the new Assassins game.

Look for twitter accounts that advertise when stores have stock, follow them, then turn on notifications for those accounts. I got a PS5 online for retail price the same day I did this. Maybe I got lucky but it worked so worth a try.
