It may be "original" only in a sense you didn't mean, but- Neanderthals. They're PERFECT for a horror movie monster: they're bigger, they're stronger, they're tougher, they're comparably smart if not more so (their brains WERE bigger than ours, but it's questionable how much that means), and the only reason we're around and they're not is that their greater muscle mass and status as obligate carnivores meant we could outcompete them when things got scarce- meaning they could very easily be PISSED about it.
Plus, they're HUMAN, so all the tricks we rely on to escape creatures both natural and supernatural wouldn't work, and there's room for real doubt as to whether we should hold ourselves as their superior; these are people, not monsters- or are they? "Horror movie" and "philosophical reflection about nature and our place in it" don't usually go together, but maybe they should.
Here, for the record, is a picture of a reconstructed model of what one would look like with a modern haircut and clothing:

A little shorter and stockier, with wider hips and a pronounced brow ridge- other than that, just like us.
An exotic flying cat. Actually several types. Tigers, panthers, leopards, cheetahs, etc. All with glorious wings like eagles or possibly dragons.

How about a hermaphrodite alien that has sex with Ripley in ALIEN 10, which results in a human-alien child in ALIEN 15 who becomes President of the Planet Earth Federation.
Just Dragons.
Fire and creativity.
