First of all, that scene with Palpatine manipulating the corruption in the Senate was brilliant.
But aside from that, was a vote of no confidence what was best for Queen Amidala in that situation?
Also... couldn't they have just... provided some proof that Naboo was being occupied by the Trade Federation?

Yes it was. What wasn't in her intrest and Naboo's intrest was her going back to Naboo to overthrow the trade federation.
She felt she had no choice as chancellor Valorum was powerless to help on the matter. Had she instead waited for Palatine to be made Chancellor the Trade Federation would have left Naboo without a fight in a negotiated deal that made Palatine look very strong orchestrated and controlled by his master Darth Plaguius. The Trade Federation was too powerful in the senate for any proof to matter. Thus a lot of Gungans and naboo people died when there was no need.
Qui Gon Jinn would have survived, Darth Maul would have survived. Darth Plaguis may have survived and replaced Palpatine with Dooku. Maybe be Dooku, Grevious, Maul, Ventress may have all fought together in clone wars with Darth Plaguis in control and Sidious as his right hand man.
It was all controlled in Darth Plaguius's master plan to put Palatine in charge of the senate and start a civil war that would weaken the jedi and disperse them to the point they could be destroyed and the Republic take over by the Sith.
... but of course as she had no idea of what was going on behind the scenes or the real reason the Trade Federation was occupying Naboo and how the senate was controlled by Darth Plaguis she did what she thought was right.
