The idea behind the primaries is the people decide who best represents them under the assumption that that's who can get the most votes in the main election. This tidy ideal has waned, however, and now it is more about who those active in the party believe is best suited to get the attention of the apolitical.
At least normally. 2020 started out that way but then COVID hit and democrats realized right away that trump was going to make a disaster out of it. So they needed not someone with the best chance of winning (victory was pretty much assured) but someone most capable of cleaning up after Trump. The primary quickly became a "rally behind Biden" show as he had the most connections, both foreign and domestic, to pull the country back together.
Now, in 2024, things are more or less back on track. Both parties have selected the candidate they believe is most capable of winning. However, republicans are not basing their strategy on appealing to the apolitical for Trump votes - rather they are basing their strategy on appealing to the apolitical to NOT vote Biden. This was a small part of their strategy in 2016, but relying more on Trumps personality to shock people into supporting him.
Now, however, it is pretty much their only strategy. And going forward I don't see that changing any. So, it doesn't actually matter who the democratic candidate is in 2028 (assuming trump doesn't win so we still have a country then) - the republican controlled media that dominates when it comes to microtargeting and false flaga will not allow any Democrat to appear acceptable.
Im still hoping AOC goes for it in 2028.
anyways even if Harris is it i think they still have a good chance of winning. Because mark my words if Trump loses this November then the Republican party is effectively dead, at least for a long time. Because they have no one else even close on their side thats a viable candidate. And as of today i got a good feeling Trump is going to lose.

Unless something drastically changes, the Democrats will not nominate her as presidential candidate. She has been (or is seen as) too weak these past 3,5 years.
"Will have no incumbent", Unless Kennedy wins. 100% agree, Kamala Harris was unelectable in 2020, and will be unelectable in 2028. Harris only got elected VP because was chosen cause of her skin color, and voters weren't voting for the Biden/Harris ticket, they were voting against the Trump/Pence ticket. If Democrats are are smart enough (which they aren't), they will choose someone voters want to vote for, and not because they fear the other candidate more.
Look at the polls from the 2020 election. Not even the average democrat likes her. Biden only chose her because she is a woman of color, not by merit.
