Why do people pay celebrities so much money?

Movie actors get paid so much because the movie industry brings in millions/billions of dollars, and thus the studios can afford to pay the biggest actors so much, and those actors can afford to demand it.

Stage actors (except, perhaps, the ones who are at the very top in their field) don't make nearly as much because plays and musicals don't bring in nearly as much money per show.

That's how capitalism works unfortunately

Because people have no lives and pay tons of money to watch events instead of participating in life. The first Superbowl in 1967 the tickets were 12 bucks. Now they are hundreds of dollars and ticket agencies can get even more. People's lives are so empty thay have to pay lots of money to be amused. As a result the players can demand millions to play a game.

Well, it's not "WRONG" to be entertained or amused by things people see? I think that is how human nature operates. Otherwise, side shows and freak shows (and zoos for that matter), wouldn't have taken off so much back then in the past centuries? ! Like the 1600s give or take. Heck, they even had Jesters (I think they were the Medieval Times version of the clown, from what I remember). People LOVE to be entertained and amused. It would probably be a lot for people to make their own entertainment? ! But yes, I agree that people tend to have "boring" lives at times and hence they tend to resort to wanting to "escape" it! I think that is how VIDEO GAMES became a Multi-billion dollar industry as well.

That's what the market allows. And then they ask for more and it's granted and it becomes cyclical.

They don't.

Most of that is just a tax write off for the companies. Plus, the agents of celebrities tend to make more than the celebrities themselves. Celebrities tend to be quite miserable and tight with money.

On average their careers, like athletes', is short. So you pay enough to make it worth it. Also their talents bring in tons of money.

I wouldn't consider a 30 to 40 year career short. Some celebs (take Tom Cruise for example), have been lucky enough (or talented enough) to be in movies since the early 80's up to now. From "Risky Business (1983) to Top Gun Mavrick (in 2022).

The 3% don't fit into the equation. For every tom cruise there are 100 that do it for 1-5 years. Talent and luck and many other factors come into play. More so than other industries.

First people don't pay them, it's the brands pay them for promoting their products
Nowadays youtubers etc. Are getting paid for the same reason.

Yeah that's true. YouTube stars are now at the same level pretty much, just online.

Also, people 'DO' pay them. The tickets get sold to the public and from what I just read, the film/TV production company gives them their share of those profits. I'm particularly talking about the movie and TV stars here though, right now, not the YouTube ones.
