Wikipedia is controlled by leftists. they want to believe what they want you to believe in
the whole gamergate controversy is just a bunch of feminazis accusing gamers and gaming in general of sexism and misogyny because they can't stop looking at the world through the lens of gender identity politics
often these feminazis want to point the finger at the competitive culture of gaming, the unrealistic design and "objectification" of female characters yet stay silent on the same for male characters and other bullshit like violence and mistreatment etc. and there's the "male gaze" these feminazis love to bring up
it's already been proven that violent video games have nothing to do with violent behavior or any negative traits yet they insist video games cause sexism and misogyny and therefore need to be banned.
if you want to know the truth about gamergate let the factual feminist tell you
https://www.youtube.com/embed/5RVlCvBd21whttps://www.youtube.com/embed/9MxqSwzFy5whttps://www.youtube.com/embed/YMw39meKmzYfeminazis like Anita Sarkesean can't help themselves but actively try to seek out sexism and misogyny where none exists, grasping at straws and then playing victim when someone calls them out on their bullshit
As far as I remember it was first publicized as an issue of journalistic integrity, with reports of some scummy practices used to gain favorable reviews for games and game related products.
Then Anita S. and friends came to make it about her, misdirected the found reports of malpractices in the game industry to only focus on the issues with had misogyny in them instead of all of them. This split the original issue and derailed the whole thing.
It's similar to how the right wing extremists slowly took over the Republican party and turned it into a state of incompetence where nothing gets done unless it helps the rich.
Pretty much the only noticeable difference to now from then is that YouTubers and other influencers now have to reveal when something is an ad and if they recieved a product for free to review it and own.
The happenings over at Blizzard these past few years show that those malpractices kept happening. Goes to show that if you can split the issue any good movement can be derailed with enough infighting, even if it's just about what the hashtag is really about.
People loving to complain about sexism in games, a place where you go to escape this whiny bs, but they try to get that bs in the games as well. It's but a game, it shouldn't matter, but they don't care.

Gamergate was this thing in late 2014ish i think where right wingers had this huge backlash against feminist writers criticizing their games like Anita Sarkesean. it was largely misogynistic.

Bloody ell.
This is a fairly good article on the subject;
https://www.gawker.com/what-is-gamergate-and-why-an-explainer-for-non-geeks-1642909080
It's not really about anything, it certainly isn't about games or gaming, it is really just what happens when people have followers and start having arguments online, it turns into a clown fiesta and then opportunistic cunts start pushing their agendas amid the chaos.
The only reason you have ever heard of it and that it has a name though is because the money of big companies was vaguely involved.
This sort of crap happens all the time.
I have been in gaming but never heard of gamergate but I did heard of Blizzard company harassment of workers especially females by c suite employees. Some people just make issues out of everything these days
The anti feminist misogynistic movement in gaming
Gamergate was just a bunch of feminist lies that were created in order to call attention to themselves by feminists.
Wikipedia will tell you more than you want to know about that.
Hmm that's a dead topic, please don't revive it again.
