The 95th Oscar Awards were held Sunday night March 12, at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

Here are the winners of the 2023 Oscar Awards:

Best Picture: Everything Everywhere All at Once
Best Director: Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert (Everything Everywhere All at Once)
Best Actor: Brendan Fraser (The Whale)
Best Actress: Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once)
Best Supporting Actor: Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once)
Best Supporting Actress: Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once)

So, which award made you happy, surprised or disappointed you and why?

I didn't watch it. Hollywood drama and ego-stroking really isn't my favorite way to waste an evening.

Everything Everywhere All at Once is not THAT good, yet at the same time it didn't really have much serious competition in most categories that it won.

Wakanda Forever winning best costume seems like a joke until you realize again, no real competition.

All Quiet... Is a very good movie, though it has a major historical inaccuracy in it, and while it's a great WW1 movie, it's not a great book adaptation. It definitely earned the awards it got, though.

Avatar and Maverick are no surprise, they were both shoo-ins for visuals and sound, respectively.

I already knew that everything everywhere all at once would be the movie of the year... It's like the only original movie in a looong time... All the awards are well deserved.. Especially Jaime Lee Curtis and Ke Huy Quan as supporting actors... They totally killed it... But the movie is not perfect tho... It has a lot of wokeness to it ( hence why it was so easy to win lol ) and it was too long... I haven't watched the whale yet... so I can't judge yet... The other winners seem fair to me also... I'd say this is a good non controversial Oscar year 👍

I only watch BET, Billboard or MTV Awards. I skip to the music performances and then delete. But looking at your list above, Im happy Michelle Yeoh won but i didn't care for the bits of that movie i saw. I liked her better in Shang Chi. Im shocked Jamie Lee Curtis didn't win for a Halloween film instead. But i wouldve rooted for her or Angela Bassett (if it was for angelas performance in 9-1-1). I like both.

I didn't pay it any attention.
However, I am happy for Michelle Yeoh, the former beauty queen who was also a Bond Girl.
But, also, I am really happy to see Ke Huy Quan as an adult win. I didn't recognize his name, but the moment I saw his 51-year-old face, my mind screamed "That's Short Round!', the little Chinese boy and Indiana Jones' sidekick in the second Indiana Jones movie, 1984's "Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom".

Harrison Ford, who plays Indiana Jones, gave him a hug just like he gave Short Round.

Oh, and 94-year old James Hong gave a nice speech. I love James Hong for over 50 years; a wonderful Asian-American character actor that you've seen in lots of things, but never knew his name just like most character actors.

In 2008's "The Day the Earth Stood Still", Keanu Reeves plays an extraterrestrial in human form who has come to Earth to save it - from humans, but wiping out the humans.
James Hong plays another such alien who was an observer in human from for 70 years on Earth. He is told what will happen, but he decides to stay in a very moving scene.

The lead-up to the scene:

KR: You've been out of contact for a long time

JH: I had a dangerous assignment.
This is hostile territory

KR: I've noticed
I was hoping I could reason with them.

JH: I'm afraid they are not a reasonable race.
I've been living amongst them for 70 years now.
I know them well.

KR: And?

JH: Any attempt to intercede with them would be futile.
They are destructive and they won't change.

KR: Is this your official report?

JH: The tragedy is, they know what's going to become of them.
They sense it, but they can't seem to do anything about it.

KR: Then it's decided then. I will begin the process as soon as possible.
We should make preparations for our departure.

JH asserts he will not go, but stay...

James Hong got his start acting in 70s porn films, usually as a businessman or gangster boss in non-sex roles, such as China Girl (1975). This led to roles in Airplane!, Blade Runner, and Big Trouble In Little China in the 80s, and more movie and TV roles in the 90s and 2000s.

The 95th Academy Awards saw India win two trophies. The Best Original Song was won by RRR's Naatu Naatu. As MM Keeravaani and Chandrabose picked the trophy, the music composer sang a song dedicating his award to India. The Elephant Whisperers won the award for Best Documentary Short Subject.

I wanted to see that film Everything Everywhere All at Once but never got the chance. I'm not surprised at all at it's Oscar for Best Picture because I know how good Asian film making can be. The very title of the film is motivation enough to be intrigued.
