Video games series with the greatest lore?

Depends on you define "greatest". Off the top of my head, I'd say the Elder Scrolls is the most in-depth, Wing Commander is the smoothest, and Legacy of Kain is the best at causing headaches.

That's excluding game series that are part of larger franchises, though; that's a whole other kettle of fish.

My favorite is Zelda, but Elder Scrolls is also very interesting. (Star Wars spin off lore is also very fun Mr. Skywalker, such as “The Force Unleashed” and “Jedi: Fallen Order”.)

Depends on how you judge. But Mass Effect has amazing world building.

I think Elder Scrolls is pretty good. i haven't played them but i also hear the dark souls games have great lore too.
