Greatest female vocalist is hard. All great choices listed. Widest controlled range I think is probably Mariah by a hair, or at least was. I will add a few favorites who are not listed here: Ann Wilson, Dusty Springfield, Debbie Harry, Marge Raymond.

I'm going to go back farther in time. Eydie Gormé had the purest tone, excellent range, and sang a wide variety of genres, alone and as a duet with her husband, Steve Lawrence. If not #1, she should definitely be in the top 10.
